Guys I have rebuilt my old aussie 4 speed but it is leaking out of the front of the lay shaft. Am I up for a new body or poor quality parts or did I miss something?

That is usually a sign the layshaft has been incorrectly removed via the front of the box rather than from the rear, perhaps more than once.

The other possibility is the new layshaft is a few thou under the correct size.

The gearbox housing is designed so that the layshaft is an interference fit in the front hole.

Pull the box back out, ensure you have a slip yoke inserted in the rear of the box to prevent oil leakage and raise the front of the box, degrease the exposed end of the shaft with a little petrol or shellite and apply some Loctite or 3 bond high strength stud locker to the end of the shaft.

Another possibility is your leak may actually be from the throwout bearing guide (input shaft cover) or it's mounting bolts at the front of the box.

Thanks S pack I'm starting to think it is a bad layshaft as I had to drive out the old one and could push the new one in by hand.
