Hi all,

I know there's a lot of us still running this traditional tyre size: 265/50 x 15 (I'm talking street tyres, not racing stuff).

I had a mate reach out during the week who has always run this size too in the good old Yokohama Radial 352 - and it's time for new tyres.

From what I've seen in the last decade or more, Yokohama only do very limited runs in this size - but generally speaking, they don't seem to be readily available any more.

So for me, I moved to Maxxis quite a long time ago, which I've been pretty happy with (tread pattern, true physical size, price and overall look).

Just curious - what other options currently exist in the market, and can anyone comment on whether or not they've witnessed any significant differences in the actual sizes (i.e. a 265/50x15 Yokohama is not necessarily the same physical size as a 265/50x15 Hankook or Maxxis or Sumitomo etc etc).

This particular mate has a dilemma at the moment, as he can't afford to switch from the Yokohama Radial 352 to another brand and gain more than 1 or 2mm in width/height, as his clearances are that tight to the body.

Any comments appreciated...

after searching high and low for 15" tyres I ended up with nankang n279s all round.

There wasn"'t too much around in 15"' performance tyres. They seem ok to me, not too pricey either and a good range of sizes

Glad you think the Nankang tyres are ok Bruce, I need to replace my 25 year old Bridgy Eagers that

are as hard as Chinese Arithmetic and they seem to be the only mob making my sizes.

That’s why I went with them. Was after something like eagers or 352s, but there doesn’t
seem to be anything of the sort out there anymore.
Have to admit to you though, I’ve never driven on either, so please don’t take my word on those
Nanking said as any sort of useful comparison.
They are smooth and quiet, too. Only maybe 6 weeks old. I don’t mind chucking my car into a corner in the hills
from time to time and they are grippy enough for me so far.
There was Bridgestone turanzas in the right size for the rears, but I couldn’t find a bloody thing similar for the fronts
that wasn’t being sold as a long lasting grandma/taxi tyre so the Nanking ones kind of looked like an
in between that and a grippy type of thing.
Nanking also have a few other ones toward the racy style as well, but the dollar comes into it as well.
Oh to have unlimited coin

Sorry Brett, forgot to say
My previous tyres were maxis too but not sure which ones
These new ones are as just as good, easy.
No use to you about comparing sizes though

Talking 13's here...but the Nankang tyres seem pretty good. A few of us used to run Yoky A048 track semi slicks and now run the Nankang AR-1 semi slicks.
Cant fault them, heaps cheaper and same lap times.
FYI.
