Anyone used a rare spares front spoiler recently , was it any good? Was keen to get a plastic one as per original but spoke to rare spares in Sydney and person I spoke to said don’t bother as they are rubbish. Is there a good 1 piece fibreglass that looks same as original . It’s a non flared SS so just want something that fits well and looks original

I haven't seen an aftermarket SS spoiler in years. It may be a case of buy what you can get and make it work.

That gumtree one in Perth looks original , don’t see them anymore as most were busted years ago . Was after a 1 piece as per original but if the rares one is rubbish I won’t bother . I’ll see if I can lookup these FB guys but would be good to hear from anyone who has a rare spares one

I purchased a Rare Spares unit. As you can see from the pics, my car is far from finished but my panel beater put the front end together to check fit and alignment. It seems to fit quite well and appears to be a good reproduction of the original shape.

Thanks retyred that’s the feedback I was looking for . The main issue I could see happening was if the width wasn’t right so being one piece it would be either too tight or gaps

Got the rare spares spoiler and it fits pretty well out of the box. After a trial loose fit up I trimmed just a couple of mm off it on the sides where it goes around guard for a nice even fit . So I’d recommend this spoiler if you’re after the original plastic look.

Good question . There are no identification marks on plastic at all and the box just has the normal rares label with part number and date it was made . So no idea where it’s made . I was able to check out an original spoiler on an SS and this one fits as well if not better . The original has a screw on the side to hold it against the guard the rares one seems to sit pretty well without the screw and the instructions don’t have any screw there anyway

The plastics industry here in Australia seemed to have survived the push to move everything overseas.  And they seem to do a good job of it too.

I bought a NOS pair of VT headlights a while back. They were still in their original Holden packaging..........with Made in Taiwan proudly printed on the side.

That spoiler is probably just vacuum formed. So it's relatively easy to make a part like that without mega dollars in tooling or equipment.

I would expect it to be done in Australia. If it isn't done in Australia, it could very easily be. The industry absolutely exists for that stuff.

Due to the size of it you’d think being made locally would make sense . Once they had the mold it would be easy but I read earlier they are hand finished around the edges which would take some time . From the finish on the edges it looks like it’s been done by hand

That's right. It'll come off the machine as part of a larger sheet, then they'll cut the extra bits off and linish it down to the finished part manually.

You can of course automate that process, but no sense in setting that up when you only make maybe... one a week on average?
