Banjo Diff Spares

Evening All,

 

I think I will most likely go down the route of a Tru Trac centre and billet axles for my SLR rebuild. However that may be down the track once the car is up and running. So until then I'll leave the Banjo LSD centre that it has in there until then.

 

The question I have is, does anyone know who might stocks spares for them? As I took the unit apart to check it out and I found a broken pin, and noticed damage to a couple of these paper thin round shims on the inside of it. And obviously I'd like to replace them.

Uni-joints are a common replacement part and not dear. I just rock up to the counter at my local shop and tell them I want one for what ever car.

Contact some differential repair shops. Hopefully one of them will have some Holden banjo diff bits & pieces laying around

Yeah...Uni Joints are common here as well. it was mainly things like those thin shims that i was after.

Contact some differential repair shops. Hopefully one of them will have some Holden banjo diff bits & pieces laying around

 

Unfortunately there are not many around my part of the island...and I've tried a few. that's why I thought I'd try over the ditch on the west island...... ;)

Surely it would be easier to just jump in head first and make the change to the TruTrac? It would save a truck load of grief trying to find good banjo LSD parts.

Sorry, I misread unit as uni.

I managed to bust one of these years ago by shearing the bolts that hold the two hemispheres together. It sounded like they had come loose beforehand as it had developed some lash. The hemispheres spun relative to one another, expanding the carrier and making removal very difficult. The car was a daily driver and I was young and foolish.

Oh yes... I know you're right... But with bills coming in shortly for the panel work and the engine rebuild, I'm watching the pennies.... BUT...also I may have a line on a 9" already set up for a torana. So until I have that sorted out one way or the other I want the car to be mobile.

Perhaps chuck a std banjo diff in it if you can't find the parts for the LSD.

Yes, I know it's a hard call to dump the banjo for a Tru trac, but it's the right thong to do IMHO.

Parts for banjo LSDs are very hard to find, and when you do, often they seem to be Chinese type parts of very poor quality.

I had a Banjo LSD repaired by a diff shop twice, and it failed within days/weeks both times.

Diff shop were happy to help sort it, but said the parts would just keep failing, from their experience.

A bog stock 138, maybe get away with it. A hot 202 , no chance.

Just my experience mate.

p.s.  I dont do burnouts, just some track events.

Mate of mine had a HQ wagon that had a 307 transplanted into it.

Had been a 6, so it was banjo equipped.

He flogged it hard for a few years with an auto behind it.

Burnouts and other crazy stuff.

Diff never failed in 3 years.

He decided to put a Muncie behind it.

Original diff lasted a week, next one not much longer.

He actually ended up carrying a spare diff and the required tools with him.

He could change them pretty quickly after about the 6th one.

Kudu, here in the land of Aus. I use Diff and Gearbox Industries (DGI) in Kedron, Brisbane.

Steve at DGI may know of a South Aus. business that might have your answer. I just cant recall it myself.

It may be worth your call to ask Steve.
