Dear Torana friends,

At a Youtube video from the Rodshop i saw a exhaust system running above the Ford 9" differential .

What exhaust system manufacturer has done this ?

It also looks like the diff housing is different then standart ?

Hi Uwe , I have twin 2.5" going over the diff with a 9" fitted.

It was built by my local exhaust shop.

Isn't yours a race car ? Dump it out the side! :)

Mines the same as Col's, hand made by exhaust shop from 2.5" Mandrels, over a later 9" large housing.

Hi Mate,  My 9 inch tubes run full length and are larger diameter than the original diff tubes.

It is possible to run the pipes over the diff but I was just going to go under the diff like others have done.  Any problem with that?

Running them under is a bit of a pain too. Diff will push on the exhaust every time it’s lifted up if not under the diff centre.

You used to be able to get off the shelf tailpipes to suit. My twin 2 and a half system in the LX sedan was made that way. Not sure if the guy who was selling them on eBay is still around or not.

I have under the diff pipes in one of the hatches and I hate them.  Same in the yellow LJ.

I think I will build my exhaust with a round to oval section under the exhaust for more clearance

I'm not saying that an exhaust under the diff is not a pain in the arse, because it can be. You certainly want to add a join before the diff for when you're playing with suspension.

But if you guys have diffs hanging down and sitting on your exhaust systems when you jack the body up, you really should be using shorter shocks. Mine certainly doesn't hit, but that isn't by accident, lol.

Hehe, yeah UC Sunbird LX Torana would be more accurate if you wanted to take it further. :P

ha ha, same here mate, 1978 UC Sunbird, Atlantis blue. It was pillaged for parts in the old days but I am making up for that now with a few improvements.  Can't decide what colour to paint it though. I think I will just keep it original Atlantis blue with a little tinter and pearls added in

I'm in a similar boat, currently dumped at the diff but the noise is starting to do my head in.   Love to see what you came up with above or below the diff.   I understand it all comes down to clearance and the suspension travel.   I'm in 2 minds at the moment.   Also straight out the back or go old school and angled down after the tyre!

Mine goes "under the diff" but it stops under the axle tubes... pointing out on a bit of an angle. You can see the exhaust in this video.

(I prioritised having a visible swaybar over having tailpipes)

A few good angles of it etc. a bit after 11min.

Seems to work well so far.
