Hey Fellas,

I'm doing a complete rebuild on the front end of my UC which is actually fitted with a virgin LH K frame (never been touched - original ball joint rivets, etc.) I bought the RS front end rebuild kit.

First problem, the lower control arm bushes were faulty. The bolt did not fit through the middle so I had to return to RS and swap them over.

Second problem, I pressed the first upper control arm bush in place and all was going well until it was almost pressed in fully and it suddenly popped in place totally without any press force.  I grabbed the bush and I could spin it in place by hand!

I checked the dimensions with a vernia and compared them to the original, all the RS bushes taper in at the upper part of the bush, they are all faulty. If I leave them in, the bushes will spin in the upper arms and wear away the interference fit of the upper arms.  Stuff that!

I thought they were Chinese made bushes so I was just about to order Mckay front bushes but then I noticed the RS upper bushes actually say Mckay on them.

What is your advice to solve this one?

I'm keen to simply buy bushes that are NOT faulty and put this job to bed lol

Couple of tack welds normally sort that problem out.

Cheers mate, was really hoping not to do that.  We used to do that stuff in the old days as a short cut.  never had to do it on a rubber bush

Well you could return the RS bushes as not fit for purpose.
Keep your measurements/images of those Bushes.

Contact Mckay and ask them to confirm their bushes for size (quote them your sizes and Images), also have they had any returned for similar issues lately.
An internal supplier/manufacturer product quality check wouldnt hurt them to look into whats being produced. How long that takes is ??

If no one says anything no one knows.

A drill through 1 only?  All 4 of my lowers had to be drilled out by RS. Bolts would not go through

Yeah I will call McKay in the Morning and let them know. Those uppers should be 32.5 diameter for the full length, mine are not

Yeah mate one only and that included all of the rear trailing arms etc, sounds like they may have a bad batch mixed with a good batch maybe.

Are you using the bolts from the LH or UC k-frame?

Could there be imperial bolts in the LH and the UC use metric which could be slightly different size?

The upper bush  part number covers HQ all the way to UC so I that is not the issue.  My UC is actually a mix of metric and imperial parts.

McKay were pretty good about it, my bushes are part of a bad batch apparently, they are sending me in spec bushes today.

I think the steering rack mounting bolts are the only ones that vary?

I couldn't remember what was different but maybe it is just the steering mount bolts
