HISTORY OF LRY-295

Built on the 17/09/1973, LRY-295 was built as a 2 door S pack (82311) at Holdens Adelaide Elizabeth plant. It came from the factory with a 173ci (LD1) engine, 3 speed manual gearboxes and a 3.36:1 banjo diff (G95). It also came with front disk brakes (J52). Its original colour was Sable Metallic (15336) and come with Cinnabar interior (52E).
This Torana was allocated to Holden dealership number 649 (Lecornus Service Garage, Kingston, SA) but was shipped to a Holden dealer in Melbourne, Victoria and sold in January 1974.
Between Jan 1974 and August 1977, the history of LRY-295  is unclear. In August 1977, my father purchased this car from Garry and Warren Smith. It was fitted with a an XU-1 dash (200km/h), loom and steering wheel from a donor 1973 XU-1 located in a wreckers yard in Preston soon after purchase. Other hard to get XU-1 parts were also purchased off this car (original front sway bar and clamps, long range tank etc).
It is believed that LRY-295 had 2 previous owners before being purchased in 1977. Previous accident damage was noted on passenger rear and drivers side front. Car was involved in a minor T-bone on passenger side in April 1978. Car was repainted Sable metallic in 1980 with a type of paint called Acran. This paint was not good quality and faded quickly. Car was repainted Sable metallic in 1986 and at this time, GTR black outs were added.
Car performed well as an everyday family car for 13 years before it become too small for a growing family. In 1990, car was removed from road use and stripped. LRY-295 was then restored over the next 4 years as an XU-1 clone. It was painted Salamanca Red (13138) and interior trim painted and re-trimmed black. Various parts from the XU-1 donor car purchased in 1977 were fitted at this time.
From 1997 to 2004, LRY-295 was driven by myself as an everyday car and in this time it covered 115,000kms.
In 2003, drivers side sill was replaced as cancer had taken over. Various other cancer affected areas where also repaired at this time.
My first ride in a car was the trip home from hospital in 1979 in LRY-295. It was also the first ride for my brother (1984), my son (1999), my first daughter (2005) and my second daughter (2007). It has become a tradition. This Tradition was nearly broken in 2007 when the engine in LRY-295 had just about cried enough. Engine lasted the trip back from hospital but was pulled out the next day. A new engine has been built by myself since then and LRY-295 is back on the road.
