I have a mate at work that owns a HZ Prem. It is a very nice example and he is getting it ready for painting. When I was having a look at car I noticed that on the car's ID tag, it lists the trim code as SPEC followed by 3 numbers. He then told me some interesting history on his car. He purchased car of it's original owner and when car was only one week old, car was stolen and stripped. The story goes that car was then sent back to Holden who then fitted a slightly modified version of GTS interior, GTS dash and GTS wheels. I gather this is when the SPEC tag was fitted. The original owner was his fathers mate and when original owner passed away, his father told him about car and he purchased it. Has anyone ever seen SPEC listed on a cars tag before? Would Holden/dealer have taken car back and rebuilt for insurance? I have told him to see if there is any old documentation of cars history to support story.

The SPEC you refer to is in relation to the exterior paint, on the paint line the paint code should look like 1453 - 120 - 1C
any chance of a pic of the tag?

As Leroy has said, the first part of TRIM code is for the exterior paint. It's the second part of the code which covers the interior trim.

I've seen SPEC stamped here, several times before where a special paint finish was ordered which was not in GM-H's normal line-up, or even an available fleet colour.

I have never seen a case where a vehicle has gone back to the factory to have a new body plate fitted, sounds like a tall story.

M41 is Turbo 400
60A in this case would be Chamois Vinyl with a cloth insert
Paint is a special order as mentioned. 1879 is normally a GMH code for Aquamarine?

the 35 - 2A refers to the page and location on the page of the paint recipe from a Dulux paint book (not 100% have to study a friends paint book again)
the 1879 Im not sure on maybe the id number for the paint book its from.

If I find any more info I'll send you a PM

I have never seen a case where a vehicle has gone back to the factory to have a new body plate fitted, sounds like a tall story.

I just assumed that the tags may have been changed at this point, car's owner never told me the tags where changed. I spoke to owner today and he tells me that car, after being repaired after being stolen, was fitted with a 253 and to compensate for the drop in cubes it was fitted with GTS interior and wheels. The original owner was happy with this and repairs were completed. As for the link to the LJ with the spec tag, paint colour looks to be the very close in colour. Owner is going to see if he can get some info on car's past. Thanks everyone for their help with this question
