Mandarin Red is a colour that looks Redder in late evening/night ambient light and more of an Orange colour in daylight

My wife's Ultra Blue Hatch looks sea blue in the evening/night ambient light and Sky Blule in daylight

Both colours are hard to photograph to get an even colour look on them

So you started in 91... Sure Mandarin red would have been hugely pupular then and you would have spent the majority of your trade spraying it.......Not.

Unlike Genes trade, a grey tile is still, well, a grey tiile.

Hence he knows more about the subject than you mate.... Just ignore him and carry on.

Gold Simmosn would look ok with Mandarin Red.....Not my first choice personally by any stretch, but wouldnt be a burnable offence to fit them.

Some things to consider about colours:

1. paint is made from different materials, and not all the mfgs use the same quality of material which is one reason the price and colour of a particular colour will vary from mfg to mfg.

2. the paint the early cars were originally painted with has not existed for maybe 30 years, therefore it is absolutely impossible to duplicate the orig colour.

3. the orig cars did not have clear on them . . 99.9% of the repaints are done with clear which changes the look.

4. in the USA, the EPA has forced the mfgs to change some of the toners over the years . . ppg has probably changed 5 times in the last 40 years . . when the toner is changed, the colour changes a bit . . one of the things that was removed was lead . . the lead was in several colours such as yellow, red and white . . removing the lead drastically changed the colour of the paint and also made it a bit translucent.

5. due to this translucent/thin paint problem, it now takes more paint to prevent being able to see through it to the primer, and since paint is so expensive and it would take maybe 6 coats to eliminate this problem, many shops are now using primer that is tinted the same colour as the paint.

5. spraying this thin paint over different coloured primers causes a different look so if one shop paints red over dark grey primer, it will look darker than the same paint over light grey primer etc.

6. spray gun pressure can affect metal flake colours.

Just sayin'

What colour's a frOcking Mandarin Gene?

Is it named after the fruit or Mandarin/Chinese? They do like using a lot of red in their decorations ... and flag.
