It’s more so the vinyl shrinks. Say leave a piece of pvc tape out in the sun and watch it shrivel up.

I'm not concerned..my painter has been doing this process for some years now without any comebacks. Cheers

I can't say I've ever taken much notice but I assume the factory decals were simply applied OVER the finished paint?

I have 3 original sports steering wheels & they're either bent or broken so I decided to have a crack at repairing the inherent problem..
Removing the grip reveals a typical break at 9 & 3 o'clock spoke ring. IMG_3073.jpg 65.47K 8 downloads IMG_3082.jpg 63.2K 5 downloads
Welded the 3 spokes, sandblasted & bend the ring back to flat & round. IMG_3769.jpg 46.96K 4 downloads
I made sure there's plenty of weld this time. IMG_3774.jpg 43.53K 5 downloads
Painted & ready to glue the grip back on. IMG_3772.jpg 52.37K 6 downloads
In the clamp jig & allow the adhesive to set. IMG_3779.jpg 52.17K 5 downloads
Cleaned up & reassembled. I'm happy it worked out & how good does it looks now! IMG_3781.jpg 67.97K 6 downloads IMG_3783.jpg 63.9K 5 downloads
Onto the steering column next..
