It isn't a clear photo, but this 1st 1978 4.2 SS looks like it has the A.

Thanks guys. I just did further digging in my box of ID tags and found a 12/77 SL hatchback L32 M40 and it has the A too. That 1/78 confirms it at least went into January as well at Dandenong. I have a few early 1978 UC auto without it. Also just found a 10/77 Acacia Ridge HZ L32 M40 set of plates with the A but have photos of others from the same month without it. So it looks like Dandenong bucked the trend.

Any chance of a photo of the plates Mick? (Totally understand if not.)

I'd be interested to know how many 78 LX's were produced, and when in 2/78 they actually finished?
Is this one enough to keep you guys happy, or interested in the other also?

Yes please Mick. I would love to see the body plate. Is the chassis number (on the body) a CLX with the C crossed out and a D stamped alongside it?

Mines 13 cars earlier than that!
Yes it's supposed to be painted Red, oversight in a last minute rush when dad sold the panel shop, shits me all the time!

Not sure if it helps, but I used to own a UC 202 auto hatch built 4/78 in Dandenong which did not have the A on the compliance plate.

Exactly what mine looks like, C crossed out with D stamped beside it. Late Jan 78. M20 SS.Yes please Mick. I would love to see the body plate. Is the chassis number (on the body) a CLX with the C crossed out and a D stamped alongside it?

Its been a long time since I've seen my body number, its very lightly stamped, and wasn't visible when purchased, but we found it when painting the engine bay, but its gone again now with the new paint...
BUT, I'm certain it is correct with it being a DLX..... not the crossed out C, something like that would have stuck with me.

Looking to see how much longer past 9/77 the A on the compliance plate went for at Dandenong. I have 9/77 plates for HZ from Pagewood, Elizabeth and Acacia Ridge with it and 10/77 from same plants without it. However Dandenong only did commercials at this time and there weren’t many in total (maybe 600 between 9/77-12/77) and autos are scarce, so I do not have enough auto ID plates from there to make a call. I have a 9/77 auto Sunbird (Dandenong obviously) with the A.

Nice HQ V8 Statesman, but I wish AMCS would cut the BS though. A HQ V8 Statesman is far from rare, you can see that this one makes it at least 439 and that is only for Elizabeth bodies. In fact there were 1587 of them, in any of 253HC, 253 LC, 308 or 350. On top of that you have the far rarer HQ Statesman, only 749 made with either 202HC or 202LC. It was never optioned with a GTS dash either, you could not option a GTS dash, it only was ever available standard on Sandman and GTS. Everything else was optionable with a sports or full instrument dash which was different to a GTS or Sandman dash.
