I have a 202 with a 161 head on it. Are these interference motors/heads.

Are you sure you havent just stripped the distributor gear?
Common problem.
Easy fix.

Holden 149 to 202 6's are free spinners (have to be politically correct)

That's the funny bit, this engine is super mild. 30tho over, cam was a 666 from crow and the head was a YT 161 with standard YT valves. So I'm completely starstruck as to why it's gone boom. Was just taking it round the block 50kmh.
Disclaimer this was my first time rebuilding an engine at all, so chances are I #@$^%& something up.

Old man reckons this is the perfect excuse to chuck in a 8. Might give it a thought.

Couple of things I note:
Looking for a cause for the cam damage, I'm wondering where the No.1 conrod is since it's not attached to the crank like I would have expected (and no real reason to have been undone on purpose at this stage)???
Not a baffled sump - If a rebuild is happening, I would be after one of them.

And number 2 rod appears twisted out of shape, or is that an optical illusion?

Keen eye, I didn't notice it looking out of wack, I'll double check this arv to see if it is bent out of shape or if it's just the angle I took the photo.

One of the nuts had been "punched" off during this whole mess, it has some pretty insane indents on the nut. Found it in the sump with the rest of the goodies. I removed it completely to see if the crank suffered any damage from one of the nuts coming off.

That’s a shame mate, Did your valves and rocker gear escape the carnage at least?
I haven't been game enough to pull the head off to fully inspect the valves however rockers seems a-ok and the valve stems seem okay from what I can see down the intake/exhaust ports and what sticks out near the rockers.
Absolutely spewing if there's damage head was only reco'd 4 weeks ago. 161 YT head too

I have rebuilt countless red motors and have never seen a camshaft failure like yours (not saying it isn't possible). You mentioned in post# 19 "One of the nuts had been "punched" off during this whole mess, it has some pretty insane indents on the nut. Found it in the sump with the rest of the goodies".
Is the conrod cap bolt (that the nut came off) sheered or has the nut worked its way loose and jammed in the camshaft causing the failure ?

Is it a possibility, that the wayward bigend nut has come off and jammed somewhere in the cam workings?? (being so beaten up - insane indents)

If there is none of the big end bolt remaining in it’s nut
it hasn’t broken, it’s unscrewed itself and flown off like a bullet.
Are there dings in number 2 crank counterweight right next to the big end bolt?
Hope I am just seeing things
Good news that the rockers are ok. How do the pushrods look?
The valve gear must have had some sort of rude shock
if it was enough to smash 2 lifters to pieces

This is quite possible, I haven't really given it a full autopsy yet. I'll have a squiz and maybe post a picture of the nut this arvo.
I'm not gonna pretend I know exactly what I'm doing, this was my first time ever rebuilding a motor but I tried my best to follow the holden workshop books to a T.

The bigend nut coming off is another theory besides a lifter failing and jamming up the cam. When I rebuilt it I replaced the existing bigend bolt and nut with brand new ARP ones.
I found 2/12 pushrods laying in the sump when I removed it. Seems as straight as all the others. They are brand new 161 pushrods from crow. That’s what I was thinking, too

There is a bit of damage to on of the counter weights, and two of the cam bearings suffered heavy damage.
