Did the lc xu1 have a MS OIL sticker on the rocker cover or was it just a plain chrome rocker cover with a sticker on the silver oil cap?
Thanks

I'm sure TBM or Frash Da Bucket would also be able to help.

HiLC XU-1s had a plain chrome rocker cover, no decal and a silver oil cap with a decal telling you how often to clean the cap in kero.
.
Have to agree with ck1971. Silver cap, clear decal/transfer with black printing.
I have seen the picture with the gold anodized cap and often wondered about it. Note the clear transfer with black print.

Here is another original GTR shot. Maybe they 'dressed' them up for publicity photos.

Hi gtr2600Smy throttle return spring hooks into the battery tray - no fancy bracket.
They must have varied between the factories (4 were assembling them) or they deleted the rocker cover decals and spring bracket at different times later in the production run.

Pictures show the MS Oil and Engine Size decals fitted to the rocker cover and the cleaning instructions decal on the oil cap, which is silver.
Both are from period magazine reports.

That car was one of the first 8 released for the press to test so that might have something to do with it..I bought that copy of Modern Motor. The rest..as they say...is history ..Torana fan since. This is from a period magazine. The cap looks gold anodised and has a black MS Oil sticker. It will be interesting to see what others say, especially Bazza who is an excellent source of knowledge when it comes to this stuff.
I'm sure TBM or Frash Da Bucket would also be able to help.

The gold oii caps were only fitted on HT monaro's 186'S and they had also a gold air cleaner and a gold fan also,
and i do think the hk 186'S were the same too.
The return spring mounted on that bracket was fitted on early 1969 gtr's and also on ht monaro's 186'S too,
It was changed that return spring bracket it used to bend up from the intense heat, and then moved the the corner,
of the battery tray on the gtr's in 1970.
The oil caps on the 1970 gtr's were silver and so was the fan too.
The rocker cover stickers weren't fitted on lc gtr's,only one air filter with the 2600 S sticker.
The stickers on the rocker cover in the photo's were only promotional only.
The lj gtr's had the silver oil cap and the fan too,but the air filter was chrome as the same on lc gtr's.
The lc xu-1 only had the silver oil cap,a black fan and no stickers on the cover too.
The 71 lc gtr's had the return spring mounted behind the carby.
Cheers John.

?
I think you will find that it is a decal but one of the old water slide decals. They look a lot like paint.
I've looked long and hard! Definitely printed on. Has anybody else have an opinion?

The black oil filler caps on GTR and XU-1 is a myth as all engine were built in Melbourne and left in a complete or in the case of the last ones, a near complete state.
The black oil filler caps will have been replacement caps fitted when old ones fell off from a loose cork seal or were dropped and bent.
My Aug 73 GTR has a silver fan and silver filler cap, air filter and rocker cover are chrome of course.
I have a picture of my Aug 73 XU-1 in the 1980's and it had a silver oil filler cap. no black one as the myth suggests.
I conclude all had GTR and XU-1's had silver caps except for those promotional ones perhaps, that have been mentioned above.
diferent colour caps have different colour decals, obviously "S" model black caps did not have black decals.

I don't think it's a water slide decal, printed on somehow.
