These were taken in the mid 1980's
Thats a pic of me and my mates (Mal Rose) sports sedan Torana.
It was one of the fastest 6 cylinder S/S in NSW.
I was using it to get my CAMS licence in it.
All suited up and ready to roll!!
There were 2 other Toranas there, (the late) Bob Tindalls white hatch in the background,
cant remember who owned the 4 door.(looks like the old HDT Torana)
Mid engined V8- Gee Im getting old cant remeber if it was a chev or Holden.

My old SLR5000 at Castlereagh Drags. It was a street meeting and early 80's (check the hairdo, lol)
I know not a Torana, but my little RX3 10A "Street Sedan" was a little ripper and heaps of cheap fun,
it would rev off the tacho (10,000rpm!!!)
That pic was taken at Amaroo Park
Amaroo Park was a great little track.

We used the short circuit.

Amaroo was always a good spectacle with tight racing and action aplenty in the second last corner.
Here's my mate Jack's LJ at Oran Park in the late '80's. There was a time when the sports sedan grid used to be full of Torana's.

Yes Pat, I did get my CAMS licence at Oran Park.

Thanks for those. Yes, Amaroo was a great track. I wonder what happened to the LH HDT sports sedan. That was a hell of a good looking car in its HDT livery. Styled by Leo Pruneau. Sensational. Any more..........
Phil, it sure looks like the old HDT LH sports sedan, Im hoping someone (REDA9X??) can confirm
whether it is or not.

Taken at Oran Park 197? At our XU1 Club Christmas party Bond said it never reached its potential due to lack of budget. Shame, it was one of, if not the, best looking cars of its time.

The front end and flare kit is still available.
Had them on my Hatch years ago. (project that ran out of money)

I am told the HDT sports sedan is in a shed in Qld...I was offered the moulds for the guards out of the blue by a fellow up here via email.

When I bought it it had a mid mounted, injected 302 Chev with Gurney Weslake 4 valve heads, a Muncie gearbox with a gear shift that came forward from the box and when you changed gear, the shift was almost straight up and down because it was cogged over so far to be next to the driver. The diff was a quickchange like they run in sprintcars.
The chassis was a GMP&A shell.
I sold it to Bob less the engine and gearbox.
I got the car off a guy in Melbourne - Jim Smith who owned Mantons, a motor dealer.

I have had these hanging around on my walls for years and didn't really pay a whole lot of attention to them.
On reflection they do have some historical value i think and will be cared for a little better from now on.
The photo's have been professionally blown up to poster size 74cm x 50cm & mounted onto boards.
The Brock/Perkins VH Commadore 82 Bathurst race winner.
The Bartlett/Bond Chevy Camaro, before it turned it's toes up.
I think i have the details correct? if not let me know.

I'm not sure, but I think the #49 Torana Hatchback that Bob Tindall has in these pictures is the car I owned back in the late '70s or early 80's.
When I bought it it had a mid mounted, injected 302 Chev with Gurney Weslake 4 valve heads, a Muncie gearbox with a gear shift that came forward from the box and when you changed gear, the shift was almost straight up and down because it was cogged over so far to be next to the driver. I got the car off a guy in Melbourne - Jim Smith who owned Mantons, a motor dealer.
Bob's "Torana" was actually a Sunbird shell (well the turret, A and B pillars and the hatch frame) shoehorned onto an all thin wall tube frame, every joint hand fitted and MIGged and erected from the first chalk marks on his workshop floor. The engine in it was an ex Repco Formula 5000 block with a high nickel content in the casting. It also had Lucas mechanical fuel injection and for the mechanical genius Bob was, he had all sorts of headaches getting it to run properly!! How do I know all this? I was very good friends with Bob from the time he first got out of moto cross and into cars. I learned a great deal from him and I was there with him some nights until 1 or 2 am cutting, grinding and fitting bits of steel.
It's been 8 years nearly and I'm 9000 miles away, but I still miss him.
