Can't say for sure but I heard a rumour.... Too elitist being GTR and XU1's only??? and not enough starters..snip
does anyone know why they were cancelled and if another attempt will be made to conduct the event? thatnks in advance, KRIS.
Like all rumours I expect this to be argued that it's wrong and other explanations given.
The simple fact is there are less and less 'special' Torries getting around be it XU1's or L34/A9X so if one wants to exclude other Torana's then one has to be very prepared for small numbers...replica's and lookalikes etc are still damn tough cars.
Cheers

Muscle Car Events had put a deposit down for a booking of Conrod Straight for the Tarmac Sprints for the Easter Sunday. This was done in June of 2004.
Bathurst City Council in their wisdom decided to run a Festival of Speed at the Mountain which I believe was put into place just before Xmas of 2005.
They told Muscle Car Events that they were no longer allowed to use the Mountain for that weekend and they also could not use the Showground Pavillion as they had done in 2004. I am not privvy if they (MCE) had also put a deposit to use that facility.
With no use of the Mountain and Showground, it would have been pointless to still go ahead with the Nationals.
The next GTR & XU-1 Nationals being promoted by Muscle Car Events will be held in Adelaide in 2008 and as far as the GTR & XU-1 Club of NSW having their own event or Nationals, I had heard that they, as stated by goxu1, will be holding a National Event at the Masters at Eastern Creek.
Everything being equal, I should be there but will probably not enter my car into any judging as No. 1/ I'm not into this judging car thing, No 2/ I am not a member of their club and No. 3/ I basically go there to have a good time and look at other cars, all types.
Unfortunately for some events that I go to, they do require to judge your car as a part of being an Entrant to the event. This will happen when I go to the South Coast Holden Owners Club Show 'N Shine next month. My car is not good enough for this judging thingy so for me being disappointed is not a problem.
Besides that, they are raising funds for "Life Education" in that area whixh is a good cause, I get to see my brother in Dapto and my long time mate at Port Kembla. Should be a great weekend.
Despite the rumours, I do have some mates
As far as being an "elitist" thing, well I suppose it would seem that way being only for GTRs & XU-1s but other car makes and models have their Nationals and I don't hear any one calling them elitists.
Back in 2004 when I went to Torana the Great, I was tagged as an elitist but for anyone who knows me would understand the passion I have for my wee beastie and that I enjoy looking at all model Toranas and socialising with the owners.
Well I have probably waffled on too much as I usually do both on the forums and when I am out and about with other Torana people.

Hopefully should be at Dapto on Friday evening of the 23 turd of June.
Then will be some where between Dapto and Port Kembla which was my home town.
There is a fella not far from you who has 14 MGs, 3 or so Jags including the one that won the 24 hour Le Mans in 1952.
He has there a 1967 E type Jag that back in 1972 when I knew him, had only 2,400 miles and now has only 4,700 miles. He has said that he is too afraid to drive the car and maybe because it might get damaged or that it is worth too much. Shame really.
His 1924 Oldsmobile doctors coupe is fantastic..
Ted is an accommodating sort of fella and will even let car clubs come and have a look at his collection.
Just about all of the work done on his cars was done by himself.
Back in 71 when I was visiting him, he said come out to the shed and see the car I bought for Molly (his wife). Bugga me when I got out there I was just about knocked over to find a 350 GTS Monaro, but at least it had a power-glide gearbox to make it easier for Molly to drive.
Might see you at the show 'n shine on the Sunday.

PS 830hp, your quote is correct.
