Hey everyone,
Well I just checked out this post and realized its been over 2 years since I did my first sprint day! Since then I have been occupied building houses and over the last 6 to 12 months I have been dabbling on the Torana.
Towards the end of last year I gave myself a deadline of Feb 10 to make it out to the first Austin 7 club Modern reg. I had a list of modifications I wanted to do and made sure I didn't add anymore so that I could just get it out there and have a bit of fun again, otherwise those lists never end! Then the plan was to do track days all year with no more mods.
Mods:
350 holley to 175cd triples
standard camber to 4.5 neg camber and 2.5 pos castor (just somewhere to start with anyway)
Bosch HEI dizzy
replace all front bushes, ball joints, new lowered king springs and koni adjustables
3.55 locked diff (just welded)
went to 7" rims with a second hand set of R888 still in good condition
fit sparco seat
tow loop
modify calipers with XU1 spacers
fit slotted rotors
fit high performance brake pads
and probably a few other bits and pieces I cant remember. Was on limited budget so I had to wait for cheap parts to pop up and drag out the build time a bit.
I managed to get it ready for the day and decided to drive out to Mallala, this was my first mistake...
Here is a few pics.

Got through the Scrutineer with a slight drama when my brake lights were out, replaced the fuse and they were still not working and it was the only spare I had. My spare was a dud. Luckily there were a lot of friendly guys at the track who managed to find someone with a spare. Thought i was going home early! Second mistake...
Lined up ready to go. Warm up lap went well and was just looking forward to getting used to a very different car. On the first practice lap my throttle jammed open on the boomerang straight but I didnt know this yet until I had to brake for the hairpin. Went into the gravel and the car was peeling allover the place thats when I realised the throttle was stuck. Pulled back onto the track and managed to shut the car down and coast to a safe position.
After being towed back to the paddock I fixed the throttle problem and lined up for session one, I look to my left and one of the drivers is signalling that something is gushing out from my car. Drive back to the paddock and the fuel pump has rattled loose from the block, fuel everywhere. Tighten it back up get it running and check its fine. All looks good. Clean up the engine bay a bit more and start it up again just to double check, all looks fine but I leave it running for a few minutes just to really make sure. Then I get underneath to make sure there are no other leaks and I can see radiator fluid pissing out the back of the engine and onto the clutch cover. Welsh plug I presume and my day is over. Most expensive 1.5 laps ever!
haha that was one of the filthiest days of my life, luckily I can laugh now. Although hiring a trailer at Mallala driving home took 1.5 hours and then had to drop the trailer back that day and drive back home again. That was an additional pain. Mistake 3, always take a race car on a trailer to the track...
So now the fun begins again and a few more weekends of work replacing welsh plugs and might as well do a few other tidy ups while its out.
So that was my epic day of pain
