Trimatic will do all you ask, just change the diff centre to 3.08, or get taller tyres. And converter to suit the whole lot.

Agree, any transmission that isn't overdriven in top gear is not going to be an improvement on the Trimatic.

Trimatic was often married up to 2.78:1 with 13" wheels when fitted with 202
Trimatic with 2.78:1 ratio diff was a std combo for 138, 161 and 173 engines also.

Thanks, I knew this, the original question was about a 202 hence my answer

No probs Brian, just mentioned it for anyone that may not be aware the 2.78:1 diff was the std fitment behind the Trimatic.

Maybe some sort of overdrive ala gear vendor or similar might be available. Best of both worlds.

A lot of money to spend to do simply what a taller diff will do! Even dropping back to a 3.36 will drop your revs by over 5%. 3.08 by over 15%.
I think there are kits out there to fit VN-VP V6 4L60 boxes, but again a lot of expense. A 202 LC with 13" rims should be fine with a 3.08:1 rear axle, especially an auto. Get a converter with a bit more stall in it if takeoff is too much of a concern.

Off the line no problems. I have a stage 3 yella terra and triple 150CD and bored to a 192. I only had 3 runs at Calder and all were 16.2 flat.
