l just happen to be going through the throes of selling my 73 Bathurst XU1 right at this very moment that the previous now locked thread about dual cast blocks appeared on this forum . It really annoys the ***p out of me that people who have never even owned one of these cars but have an * expert opinion * about what should and shouldn't constitute a genuine engine . l have already had one perspective buyer of my car ask me if it has a dual cast block simply from reading the uneducated and ***t stirring rubbish that is allowed to be posted here .
In MY opinion only , it is nothing more than an urban myth/legend that there is a difference ALLLLLLLLLLLL 202 blocks up until about late 1974 or so were ALLLLLLLLLLL the same , cast from the same material but were cast in different moulds of course . Imagine if GMH had to wait for blocks to be cast using just one mould ........., would have taken forever to create enough engines for all the HQ , JL gtr toranas and of course XU1's so there were BOUND to be differences as producing exactly identical moulds would be near impossible . Once created , all 202 blocks would have been put on the racks and then mixed and matched amongst the different models requiring a 202 , and then once the engine was built and ready to drop in wether it be for HQ , GTR or XU1 THEN AND ONLY THEN was it stamped with it's engine number .
Picture of the casting date of my 73 Bathurst and NO , it does not have a friggen dual cast date either .
