Hi Darryl,
I am not a spray painter, so that bit doesn't bother me, but the drive train does, and I like doing all the work to my Torana only.
Costs to me were , forking it out until the right bits work, and those learning bits move onto the next Torana's.
I remember 30 years ago counting $5000 worth of Drive Train parts ( I wasn't a big spender ), but as the years went on, it became cheaper as I was keeping all the goodies.
Like today, I still have my original Race 186 44cc chamber Head which goes on to 202's only, and will get another upgrade shortly. Dave I
there is maintenace/remake losses too

From the beginning i've never kept a receipt, and I'm scared to work it out . . . . . . . . . . . .

I did start keeping receipts, My father told me it would be a good idea incase i wanted to sell.....Seeing though i'd sooner be homeless living in the LJ than LJless living in a home i stopped that silly rot 10 years ago.
Cheers.

I never keep receipts full stop,
takes up to much room after 30 years. Dave I

I kept them (receipts) when I was much younger but in latter life I was always too scared that someone would find them and then calculate the total amount.
Totalling Torana rebuild receipts opens up the risk of being Institutionalised and Committed to a Funny Farm. Nobody could really justify that my rebuild totals reflect any rationality or sensibility. If I realistically look at the lowly sunbudgie (LX hatch) the total build spend will be far more than the brand new supercharged $100k GTS dunnydore.
Good thing that in making such a decent financial and time commitment ....... that we have access to perfect replica spare parts via Rare Spares.

so that means, a Torana Total cost is infinite

Budget on abou 100K then anything left over is a win.

I thought it might cost around 15k. I was way off. It might be better if I got a normal car that I could regularly drive around daily, and then later on I could get a Torana
You could just get a driver quality Torana, drive it around and do little fix ups as you go. You'll then get to learn about Toranas, what to look for if you plan to buy a restored one, trouble spots, etc. You'll learn so much faster when you actually own one.
You could also end up restoring it down the track after you've learnt more about them.

I am going to stop counting at 60K.

any cost is acceptable, it is a Torana after all
