Get off the drugs, a 265 is fine for a 10" wide rim.
I wish you would put as much energy into researching the correct answer as you do being deliberately argumentative. I said that "I know people do it anyway", but that doesn't mean they should be doing it.
From this website: http://www.carbibles..._bible_pg4.html
For 50-series tyres and above, the rim width is 70% of the tyre's section width, rounded off to the nearest 0.5.
A 265/50R14 tyre has a 10.43 inch section width, so 70% of that equals a rim width of 7.5 inches (up to a maximum of 9" according to their calculator).
If you actually read my comment, I said you need to go to a lower profile tyre.
For 45-series tyres and below, the rim width is 85% of the tyre's section width, rounded off to the nearest 0.5.
A 265/45R14 tyre also has a 10.43 inch section width, but 85% of that equals a rim width of 9.0 inches (up to a maximum of 10.5" according to their calculator).
So as I said, a 265/50R14 is too small for a 10" wide rim, whereas a 265/45R14 is not.
