What is the maximum width, and maximum backspace (or offset for given width) on the front and rear of an LC/LJ and what are the max size tyres to fit inside the guards?!
Cheers!

Assuming the profile is 60 or less, the widest allowed rim for a 225 is 9", for a 215 is 8.5", and for a 205 is 8".
So, would a 9" rim on the rear with a 225 tyre fit inside the rear guard? What would the backspace or offset need to be?
What about the front? What backspace or offset required for an 8" or 9" rim?
Comments from anyone running rims wider than 6"?

So to run 17x7s on the front the offset would have to be ideally 37P or less to keep the same scrub radius. When your run 15's they tend to hit the grease nipple on the upper balljoint.
As for the back, I've seen 14x8 GTS wheels fitting no problem, albeit with a custom offset running 245/50R14 tyres. I will be running 17x8 and 17x7 245/30R17 and 235/30R17. That should clear and I will be rolling the rear guards.

Sprintmasters are actually 6" wide.
Thought so. I'll be running 14x7's they should fit no worries... ROH Rebels, if anybody is interested...

RE: the legalities. If you fit another diff or another hub for the front (like the Hoppers kit) that will allow you to have the maximum wheel/tyre sizes for that model of car that the diff/hub came off.
You will get away with 7.5 or so, but anything bigger and its pretty cop bait if your running Banjos and torana hubs. And 225s on a 9" tyre is pushing it especially if your running low profile tyres.

Front

Rear

We have not had tyres on or driven the car with these rims so we may have to adjust the guards or wheel arches but I don't think there will be a problem.

So 25P would be probably the max for a 15...What kind of Tyres will you be running? With 17x8 will prob have to run something less.
Bad luck dickie, I am in the same boat ish. Uni holidays is coming up and working day and night to pay for the "driveline" conversion. Step 1 in legalising car for v8. Disc brakes all round etc.
Sell your Xu1 diff, it will probably pay for a commodore diff

Sorry for late reply.. I've been lucky enough to be away on a holiday for a while....
Notice I said the widest TYRE option was 7". The new rules seem to be based on the original tyre options, not original rim width options.
If we use the new rules to the max allowable width, then a 7" original tyre means we can fit a maximum 225 tyre. And the rule states that for profiles less than 60, the widest rim allowablew is 9".
Anyway.. thanks to all who posted size and offset details.

I tried to resize them but they got abit strange looking. I think we have a winner though.
Shorten the diff by 1" and run GTS rim offset will fit an 8" wide rim as long as you decrease the profile as you go up in diameter size.
Thanks for the pic Dave, nice car those wheels really suit.
