According to the Fiv Antoniou book......."General Motors Holden decided that only the minumum two hundred cars required for racing homolgation would be produced. Initially these new Toranas were assembled in Adelaide and brought to Melbourne to be fitted with the new parts. They were rushed through production lines around August - Septemper 1972..."
Someone may be able to say how to identify a '72 Bathurst - I understand that is not as simple as identifying a '73 Bathurst.

72 bathurst cars others say 18 august thay started but you have to remember the changes thay made to the bathurst cars continued on thay were never taken away
ie all xu1s built alfter the start of the run are the same spec as the 72 bathurst cars up untill the 73 bathurst cars.
just for curiosity brocks 72 bathurst winning car was produced 3rd of august 1972
at the adelade plant

sounds right doublin although there has been some debate about the carry over of the camshaft used in bathurst 72 cars on the 73 cars , would like to hear others opinions ......

72 bathurst xu1 55/94
cant find any info on cams inbetween bathurst cars and also
all info seens to suggest that 72 and 73 bathurst cars had the same XH cam
so what you are saying smiley sounds about write.
p.s i always thought 73 bathurst cars had a bigger cam in them than 72 thats why thay had the valve relives in the block but maybey that was for the size of the valves

The rules for the race changed for 1973 & non-standard cam grinds were allowed. AFAIK all XU-1s from the '72 Bathurst batch onwards used the same cam from the factory.
There was no need to fit a large dedicated non-streetable cam, because they were allowed to fit what they wanted to the racecars.
