Gday.

I'm just tryin to work out my budget for the LJ, and I'm wondering how much a full set of bushes is gunna set me back?

I'll probably get new standard height shocks and springs aswell, How is that gunna affect the bank account?

Its an LJ 2 door with a 173, if that helps.

Cheers, RIM

All these are Noltec brand.
-Radius Rod Bushes - $41.88
-Front Lower Control Arm Inner Bushes - $64.01
-Upper Control Arm Inner Bushes $95.32
-Lower Bump Stops - $47.31
-Upper Bump Stops - $47.31
-Crossmember Outriggers - $36.18
Total - $331.98

I see complete Superpro kits go on ebay for around $220, brand new they are around $370
Or you could go rubber bushes and that will probably set you back around $100.

You might as well go new tie rod ends and balljoints, A set on ebay went for around $110 cant remember with or without tie rod ends.

What Im unsure about is that the noltec site didn't have any bushes for between the crossmember and the inner guards.

RIM, budget for $1000, springs, shocks, bushes (front and back), ball joints, wheel alignment and fitting/labour. That way you will be covered.

Sorry to thread steal, but Rim may wanna know this one as well. Whats the best combination to run on a street car that sees some entry level motorsport bushes wise?

All rubber, half rubber half nolothene or all nolothene (spelling :tease: )

Mines a daily so maybe all nolothene wouldn't be a good idea, but would all rubber compromise handling too much?

i think if you go all rubber (new) then your biggest compromise on handling would be tyre/spring/shock selection and compatability.
you will notice rubber bushes letting your handling down when you start talking 5/10ths of a second lap time between tyre brands.

I was advised by WA Suspensions to use standard rubber for the upper bushes on my LX. They told me that SuperPro recommend rubber upper bushes for street use. I had SuperPro bushes fitted to the lower arms.

WA Suspensions are a SuperPro supplier. I asked them about the Nolathane bushes. They claimed they where too hard and that sometimes they were not a tight fit in the suspension arm. The Nolathane bushes have a pressed outer shell and the SuperPro bushes have a machined outer shell. That said I am sure that if I asked a Nolathane supplier about SuperPro bushes they would tell me that Nolathane are superior.

the point i was trying to make here is that if the car is to be driven on the road then you may find hard bushes, as opposed to soft rubber ones will destroy metal parts on the car and induce cracking and in my opinion are not needed along with the suspension setups needed for racing, and if racing, the car is usually beefed up to win a race, not drive from sydney to melbourne, so shock and spring settings are usually changed to suite track and tyre selection.
remember you should be running the softest spring possible that will control the wheel and then select a shock setting that is not too stiff to control the spring.
if you are not a front runner or you are not looking to squeeze every poofteenth of a second out of the car, the compromise should be on the soft side rather than the hard side.

I just want to have a bit of fun with the car, not go out and try and win the Bathurst 1000 in it. So i think i might just settle with rubber bushes.

When i build a race car i will go with the Nolathene bushes or something hard.

I got them through another forum member who used to work at autobarn. I paid $650 for the lot.

Do you know anyone who works at autobarn?

Give it a go mate. Its so much better to get good stuff at cheap prices...

Peddars quoted me $300 for the front and $310 for the rear Koni Adjustable shocks.
