yokohama do a 215/45ZR18 which i reckon would be perfect for a 7" rim.

i'll have to get a price tomorrow :)

http://www.toyo.com....Fs/Proxes 4.pdf

Compare the radius of the tyres from the above spec sheets.

215/45/18 651mm 325.5mm
225/40/18 637mm 318.5mm
215/45/17 626mm 313.0mm
215/40/17 607mm 303.5mm
205/60/14 600mm 300.0mm

The 225/40/18 would be more likely to fit than the 215/45/18 as it is 7mm smaller but only 5mm wider.

The other legal issue with changing tyres is the load rating. Most Toranas need at least a load rating of 83, some need 85. Insufficient load rating is a defect if picked up and will invalidate any insurance policy.

thanks for your help mate :spoton:

what do you reckon would fit better on the front ?

215/45/18 on 7" rim,
or
225/40/18 on 7.5" rim ?

looks like the 225/40 going off your specs :)

When you see a torry with 225/40/18's and you've only got the 215's on yours you'll hate yourself for having a smaller width front tyre than them... It's a testoterone thing...

Nothing Mr. Tinsnips can't fix.

But how do you use Mr Tinsnips on the Fibreglass spoiler?????

thats when you introduce Mr Hacksaw

you dont really need big tyres to fill out the guards, look at the 195/55(or 50, cant remember)/15's on the front of mine, they fill them out well

I doubt you will get the 18's to fit, the only way to find out is to jack a front wheel of the ground and measure the clearances. The is no benefit to fitting 18's over 17's in terms of brakes or tyre performance.

245/35/18 656mm
215/65/14 638mm
225/40/18 637mm
235/40/17 619mm
215/40/17 607mm
205/60/14 600mm
195/55/15 593mm

This car has 215/65/14 on the rear and 205/60/14 on the front. The Simmons rims have been photoshop scaled to 17's and overlaid on the real tyres. The real tyre diameters match a 225/40/18 rear and a 215/40/17 front. Even if you could get them to fit I think it would look more like a tractor than a Torana with the rear wheel on the front and an even bigger wheel on the rear.

i spoke to the tyre guy and he cant get 215/40/18's

he is going to have a look at the car to see if i can fit 225/40/18's on. otherwise i will go for 17's, as the centres are the same size anyway.

i found this pic of 17's in gun metal.

although my rear dish wont be as big, 17's look big enough.
that way i can run 205's on the front and drop it on its arse.

cheers lads !!

If your going 17's, with the rears I would go a 8.5 or a 9 inch rim and a 245 or 255. I think the 17x8's I had on the back of mine were +20 or +22mm offset.
IMHO you need around a diamtre of around 650mm to fill the rear guards out, so a 255/40/17 would do that the best

i dont know if i want that wide look on the back or not, as the car will probably always stay 6 cyl.

17x17.5 cant go wrong, if you get too big rubber for the 6 then it will only slow you down.

cheers
