Hi Troy.

You need an LSD hemisphere to fit a mini-spool anyway, they won't fit into standard diff centres.

The reason LSD centres are difficult to find, is that they're always chopped-out in the tapered cone area & you can't buy internals as separate new pieces. New units have to be purchased complete & are relatively expensive. Find a hemi-sphere where the cone area is stuffed (because it's now only scrap metal) & fit your mini spool to that. The mini-spool doesn't need the cone area to be in good shape.

Banjo's are notorious for their lack of strength, and pissweak axles.

If you mini-spool or weld up the banjo centre, your axles don't stand a chance. I've have a few different welded Banjo centres in my LH and LC. The axles beign to twist after just one day of (sedate) driving. The axles are just too small and weak.

So basically, if you were going to the bother of installing a mini-spool in your banjo then make sure you have plenty of spare axles available. But personnally, I would go for a diff upgrade (to Borg warner or 9 inch) before considering installing a banjo minispool. I now have a minispool'd borg warner in my LC.

The VN V8 Borg Warner is a pretty popular option, 31 spline. Micklx sounds like he may have some better advice for you.

You sure it's not 28 Spline?
I've never heard of a B/W with 31 Spline...Either way they're pretty good those diffs. Better than Banjos.

31 spline is a NEW conversion for BW diffs. Most have either 25 or 28 splines. To clear the 13" rims, use a VN diff and brakes from a vehicle that have 13" rims. Apparently Pintaras have B/W diffs, rear discs and 13" rims.

did vn's come out with 13' rims??I thought they were all 14's ??What about running commodore axels from a VB-VH with the bango locker?

But pintaras are 25Spline and 2 pinion, they do come in LSD too I heard. So they are not AS good, still an improvement over banjos. Though if your spending the money on getting it converted to fit the torana, why not go 28Spl, 4 pinion.

I've seen some 31 spline mini spools being sold. But there is no factory option is what im saying.

Troy - Chopper was saying use smaller brakes/rotors and a VN diff. The VN discs and calipers will not clear a 13" rim, they came out in smallest 14" wheels.

Apparently Pintaras have B/W diffs, rear discs and 13" rims.

I shall make my post a bit clearer. Get the rear discs and calipers from a Pintara BW diff, and they will bolt onto a VN BW diff. Axle and/or disc mods will be needed. You will then have a VN diff ( 28 splines and 4 pinions ) with rear discs that will fit inside 13" rims.

Does that make more sense?

or you could retro-fit the torana drums to a VN diff

hi troy if you realy wanted a banjo with a spool you should run fine spline axles.Since they are hard to find you can use gemini axles and get them drilled to suit torana stud pattern.

apparently i need a lsd diff housing to put a spool in??the axels would snap??if i upgraded the axels to stronger ones would that be the go??Dont want to put a heavy 9"inch in its overkill for the car, just need a stronger diff set up

What diff are you talking about?

If your reffering to Borgwarner diffs. Then you are sort of right. The axles are 25 and 28 Spline. 25 came out in nissan pintaras. People only buy those for the 4.11 ratio. They then buy a Skyline diff. Silhouette and GTS models came with LSD. Though most are single spinner, however that would be still be ideal for your minispooling needs as they have 28 Spline axles. Ratios are 3.7 for manual (whiney due to design flaw) and 3.89 for Auto.

If your really worried about snapping axles. Go the B/W with 31 Spline axles and run a full spool. There is an ebay store that sells the full spool. They also make minis in 31. However a Fullspool will be the job done better.
