Hi Fanatics,im building a new 308 for my lj wich consists of : come 355 crank, scat h beams,speed-pro forgies, fully ported hq heads, head studs/main studs etc...What i am after is some feedback on the pros/cons of single square-bore vs tunnel-ram for drag racing and occasional street use.the cam will be chosen once the manifold is decided.any help will be appreciated. :D

a tunnel-ram can be made to work on a 355 but generally a single carb setup has a far better power range especially for any type of street use, if you dont mind setting the combo up for 4500-7500rpm then you can probably get good results but they do take a fair bit of setting up especially squirters and pump cams, but yes it can be done and they do look tuff, but generally its just alot easier to go single carb setups for tuning ease and better power lower down ,its really up to you if you want something bad enough youll make it work. :spoton:

yeah it all depends on your diff ratio, you might get away with it if you were running 4.11s or lower, generally thats about all they are good for

Thanks guys,i think i might go with the edelbrock torker for simplicity & easy tune. by the way my diff ratio is 3.7 mini spooled 9inch moser 31 spline. :spoton:

fellas
back in 1983 i put a ram on a stock slr5000 with tq20 cam/extractors
4 speed and 2.78lsd, i drove it everyday for over a year,
everyone said it wont idle, wont work, too big flat spots etc,
but nearly every hot rod had one at the time and they were
mostly stock so i thought why not.
Glad i did it it was briliant and very torky on the road,
it was a cain tunnel ram and 2x 650cfm vac hollies, all out
of the box and bolted on, i had a big engine built and
wanted a clean bonnet, so went single carb and nitrous
route, give it a go, then you'll know.

I'd look at a Strip Master or Torque Power manifold over the Edelbrock Torker, I've never really seen a Torker produce good results on 355s.

Thanks BOTTLEDUP,does anyone know if a Strip Master or Torque Power will fit under the bonnet of an LJ with a NOS spray-bar,a holley & a 2 1/2 inch filter? Cheers Phil.

Nope I doubt very much that it will... seeing as it doesn't fit under the bonnet of a mate's VH

LOL love your style :P

I'm with what 1Quick said.. If it's a dedicated race car ( well MOSTLY) and your willing to play around to get it tuned, then the rams may be worthwhile!

Cheers!

decisions..decisions...already owning both manifolds makes it hard,so does owning a clean bonnet and one with a pro-stock scoop(although the t/ram is polished hmm).any way i will post my decision when its made and a pic when its finished. Cheers Fellas.
