This is the start of my project. A VL commodore is donating its engine and gearbox and will also donate some of its interior. It's a bit of a p.o.s at the moment but that's the beauty of it. If anybody has any ideas or some tips for me, feel free to tell me. You can view pictures of the project at the following site;

it looks a lot like my project :P www.optusnet.com.au/~dansedgli/gallery

If I did it again I would go for a R33 halfcut straight away.

They seem to be cheaper than VL turbo engines for some insane reason.

You will get the stronger gearbox and the head all at once.

If you go for a complete R33 setup then getting an engineers cert will be easier. Then afterwards all you need to do is bolt in a RB30 bottom end if you want the extra capacity.

Ive gone for the NA RB30, GT3540 turbo, Rajab plenum, wolf 3d, injectors, big fuel system. I wish I did the head conversion first but heaps of people have run fast times with the SOHC head so Ill see how it goes first. When this setup blows Ill rebuild the bottom end to turbo specs but stronger.

Good luck with it all, you dont realise how much work it involves until you start.

When I bought the Torana I got the commodore aswell, all for a thousand bucks. How could you say no to that.

Ahh if you already have it then go with it. I just found people wanted rediculous prices for VL Turbo engines.

Are you planning to turbo it or anything like that?

The plan is to have a twin turbo set up but living in the middle of nowhere is going make it a little difficult to achieve. Although, being a mechanic i can do some of it myself.

Agree with that Aidan! I took me 2 years to find mine and they are great! Just put them in storage for when the respray happens!

2doorterror, your hatch reminds me of mine when I first got it! Look forward to the buildup pics.

I am in the middle of QLD. I have both doors but they are both rusted across the bottom. I could have them reskinned but a new skin is about $400 a skin. My email address is [email protected].
