Here are a couple of pics of my mid-life crisis...

I bought her a couple of years ago and since then she has undergone mainly a mechanical upgrade. Although tags are long gone, at the time of purchase I had her verified as a second production run LC XU-1. She was Plum Dinger at her birth in March 71 at Acacia Ridge. I've been able to trace her owners right back to the '80s.

Unfortunately in the '80s she received the LJ 'upgrade' treatment and flared guards. Eventually she will go back to LC dress and the guards will be de-flared.

Since buying her, she has received a full new running gear. The motor is now a Blue 12 port 202, ACL rebuild kit; internal balanced; head and main stud kit; custom solid cam; straight cut timing gears; shaft mount roller rockers; Microtech engine management on VK EFI inlet manifold; Pro Comps Ignition system and coil and custom made 7 litre high volume sump. She's good for 275 FWHP. She's still okay on the street, although not the easiest to drive in city traffic.

The M21 has been done twice now in the last two years. I'll see how she goes with the second reco, before an upgrade to a stronger box. She also runs a Renegate sequential shifter, which is great for the track. No missing gears!

The LSD Banjo has also been fully recoed and now runs tighter gears (3.55), since I do most of my driving at Morgan Park Raceway, which is a tight track. So far, the diff hasn't given me any grief, although an upgrade to a Borg Warner is planned, if something happens. The exhaust is a 3" right through, which gives her a nice deep sound.

The front end has been fully done with Speed Pro bushes and now runs a bit over negative 3 deg camber. On track, she runs Hotwires with Yoko A032R tyres and on street Dragways with 225 and 215 Eagers. The front brakes have been upgraded to DRB slotted rotors and Bendix Ultimate pads, although the brakes will see a bit of new stuff in the New Year.

The inside has also seen a bit of action since purchase. She has received new carpets and OBX Daytona race seats, with new matching four point racing harness seatbelts. She came with a half roll cage when I bought her.

She is club registered and is mainly only used for track days at Morgan Park, although she gets the occassional run on nice Sunday afternoons. Future plans include (as mentioned above), the refitting of LC front and back and the de-flaring of the guards. A steel CAMS approved six-point rollcage is also planned. The suspension will also see some action soon.

The paintwork is almost 20 years old, but is still in very good condition. She'll also receive a new paintwork in the New Year, now that I've finally got my new three bay shed finished :D

My first car was a 1971 2-door LC 'S' Torana many many years ago. So this one has a lot of sentimental value for me, as well as bringing back a lot of good memories!

Cheers

Mark

Thats a very nice car Mark. Shame about the Tags. Did you get them remade?

The car looks 100% :)

and the LJ back to LC sounds like a good idea :)

Now listen Mark, I know you have a direct line to the Big Fella upstairs but that is the only Torana I know of that has 275 Front Wheel Horsepower! haha! Gotcha!
We need to swap info on suspension settings, I have put the A032Rs on my 13 x 7 hotwires as well, cant run slotted brakes in my era class tho. I think my 3.08 will do fine for Morgan Park and Leyburn with the V8 in it. Already had Roger accept us for Speed On Tweed for 2006 so that is a given. Nothing wrong with a mid life crisis, tho if you get paid enough to build and run this sucker I might have to change my employer to your side! Looks good! :)
Rory
P.S. Get the braided front lines off Ebay, good deal at $100.

Hi Rory

I think 3.08 will be fine for Morgan Park and Leyburn with as much grunt as you have. Since getting the new motor, I've actually thought about putting back the 3.36. The 3.55 is just a bit too tight for Morgan Park.

Suspension is an area for me where I'm still in the dark. I really haven't touched the suspension on the car since I bought it, except I took the rear sway bar off to give the rear a bit more flexibility and less wheel spin out of corners. So I'd need some advice from you!!!

About my employer; as they say, the rewards are heavenly

Are the braided lines on Ebay at the moment????

Cheers

I don't have the supersprints program in front of me, but usually they run eight weekends a year in two categories (so you can run 16 weekends).

The recent HRCC newsletter said that they'll run their weekend at Morgan Park at the end of April again. I took part last April and it was a good weekend (although I had plenty of car trouble).

But you can do a full day at Morgan Park every Tuesday and Thursday (alternating weeks) for $75 a day. Since my day off is on Tuesdays, I go down every now and then for a day.

We should actually organise a Torry day for South East Queenslanders at Morgan Park one Tuesday! (although it's a bit too hot at the moment; I think my 032Rs would melt in two laps!). It'd be great to have Rory's beast there and a few others!!!

Cheers

Sounds good draglc! We should really organise something like this in the New Year (April/May) when it's a bit cooler.

Thanks 350LH. I've had a read about your car, which is totally amazing!

Cheers

Nice looking car. Esp like those colour coded mirrrors. Always thought that the song about "life begins at 40" was a just to make old folks feel better. But by crikey its true!

No worries smiley.

It's simple enough to organise. Once the weather cools down, we can agree on a day and I'll contact Bill Campbell at Morgan Park and will have a chat to him about it.

Cheers
