A mate and I have been getting into a bit of circuit racing lately, and we have been buying 2nd Hand Semi-Comp tyres for the commodore, but are not able to find any at the moment.

We usually get them from a bloke at Emu Plains, who sells them for $80 / tyre (second hand, obviously) but he hasnt got any the right size at the moment.

We need roughly 225s on a 15" or 16" rim.

Buying them brand new isnt really an option at the moment, as the cheapest we've found them is $410 / tyre, and as we only use them once or twice a year, the 2nd handers are perfect for us.

Does anyone have any hints or tips to finding some new ones for cheap, or have a guy that supplies them 2nd handers?

Cheers.

Head to the race track. They have to pay for the old tyres to be disposed, so they'll usually give you the old ones for free if they have a pair. Good for a few runs. Just know what size your after. Might have the odd flat spot here and there, but can usually put together a full set after a few visits.

Matt,
if you are only running a 7" rim... try these...
price is right and he has a heap of them.
KUMHO V700
I have a couple of sets of Yokies AO48R's but none are cycled enough yet to sell them...
I will keep you in mind for next year though, as i usually offload about 4 sets a year, as they become 1/2 worn.

Cheers Greg..

Thanks guys, we're chasing them all up this week.

Greg - thanks for that mate, we're running an 8" rim, so I dont think 7" tyres fit on?? Unless they baloon, but being Semi Slicks not too sure, but will check anyway, cant hurt to find out. Even if they dont fit on the symmons, could probably chuck them on a set of steelies or something I guess. Just loses that extra bit of control.

Thanks again!!

A 205/45R16 will fit on an 8" wide rim without too may dramas. It's not a recomended fitment for street use, but it doesn't sound like you'll be using these on the street.

Nah mate, the only time she see's the street with comp tyres on, is driving it out of my workshop onto the trailer. Might have to give them a run and see how they go!
