hey im thinking of getting a gtr dash for my lj but i wanted to put in the autometer guages instead of the factory ones. will they fit straight in or not because of the lip around the guages, because the factory ones are ressesed back in the dash?

Youll have to measure the guages, not sure exactly what size they are off the top of my head. I 'think' you might be able to just put the autometer guages in the same way the gtr guages sit, just bolt them on using the brackets on the back of the gtr dash.

Anyone else done this before?

I've seen plenty of people put VDO gauges where the GTR ones are usually so you should be safe - take one of the GTR gauges with you to where you buy your autometer gauges from & compare them.

Ive got aftermarket vdo gauges but I assume the proper sized autometer gauges would fit.

its in the APRIL 2005 magazine(same issue as i got in readers rides for! )

Anyways the plates are actually GTR 355 ! and yeah it has a GTR dash full of silver faced autometer Gauges. Also the panel where the heater controlls are now has warnings lights and aircraft style switches!

Its a very, very nice car !!!

Just to drag up an old one

I had a customer with a GTR come in today looking for gauges
I could have sold him aftermarket ones but I figured there must be someone out there reconditioning the original gaugues to keep the car looking original

Anyone got any suggestions

Gauges required are Oil, Fuel, Amps ,Temp

All electrical not capillary types

Im doing the autometer gauges in mine, the smaller 1's are 2inch-autometer make 2inch, and the tacho and speedo are 3inch from memory also available in autometer
Dattoman-there's a couple of old guys here in qld about 10mins from my place that specialise in reco'ing old gauges mostly VDO i can find out their number if you need it

there is a VDO shop in Bendigo, he recos anything VDO, he has been doing it for years. he also makes speedo cables to any length and to suit any box/dash combo. He also sells VDO guages for about 1/4 of the price of Autobarn and similar places.

ive put some after market gauges in my gtr dash they dont sti 100% perfect but if you get ones with a differnt rim (simular to factory) they will fit perfect and look alot better then old factory ones IMO

The gauges can be repaired, as the GTR cluster i brought needed mine reconditioned including the Tacho.

My rebuilt tacho still bounces around a lot, but its a lot better than some of the orginal tachos i have seen.
