Main things to check is that it's not bent(chassis rails) or rusted out in the pillars, sills, quarter panels as the rest can be rebuilt/repaired with time, patience & money.

An early lc is around 37yrs old now, what are you looking at buying,a shell or a running car. What are you plans for it & budget?

To expand on the above ^^^ - trying to find a rust free 2 dr is just about impossible unless you want to pay the big $$$ cause they have stuff all rust protection from factory as many will attest to. Just check bottom sills, bailey channel above doors, parcel shelf, boot floor, bottom of rear quarters, floor pans & around front & rear screens - basically wherever water will escape or get trapped.

$$$ don't mean they are good cars All it means is, you have to look alot harder when buying it. I got offered $10,000+ for a lc 2dr S, today. It's a bare shell in hi-fill, on trolley stands

Check the chassis where the front arms bolt up as these tend to rust and crack

check for rust in the floor pans, around windows, sills and inside door jams where the hinges are, if there is rust here its a pain to fix

Check for doors sagging and not closing properly

Also make sure the car is complete as all these little parts cost a fortune to buy off ebay

Check the aussie four speed in all gears as these are shit but cost a bit to fix

Thats about all I can think off at the moment

Cheers
