the rocker covers on the 253 are shabby (but workable) . Are 253 and 308 same size? any others fit?

On the passenger side rocker cover it has the cap ontop then a hole at back that has a rubber grommet that is plugged shut with silicone, other side has hose connected to front goin to back of carby. What was the siliconed off hole used for?? If its not needed how do i properly close it off??

they are the same kaz!

the hole may have been used for a breather at some stage, does it have a PCV valve at all? or is that fitted on the other side?

:D

the hole in the back of your rocker cover is for your pcv, as far as im aware the pcv was only on the passanger side, so perhaps you have 2 left hand side rocker covers. just get some chromies, that say 253 on them and you can still hook up a pcv with them as well :spoton:

Yea thats right. Too help the crankcase breath properly you need a pvc in one tin connected to manifold vacunm somewhere and a breather hose/or breather cap in the other tin.

yea if the back ones been blocked off probably been a conversion job iffy spot as i had the same prob and just swaped the rocker covers around on the 253 in my lh

253 heads are identical to 308 heads (lol trhis reminds me of a story some idiot saids to me the other day if you want to get a 308 really going bolt 253 heads on! )

personally i wouldnt go the tin styled rocker covers as the breather applications in them arent as good as the std covers are

just repaint the stockies or get the alloy ones
my 2 cents

The 176 had a chrome breather cap filter thingy, but the 253 has a normal cap as per pic and the hole at the back of that rocker cover is the one siliconed shut. so instead of cap should it have a breather cap?

way toooooo many caps in that story :fool:

run the front one from the manifold to the cover with the PCV and the rear one from the cover to the air filter, as per standard.
