Hey guys, whats the difference between the V6 T5 trans and the V8 T5 out of say a VN. VN V8 seem to have the most T5 floating around, thats y i ask.
If nothing but the bellhousing, can they be swapped over to suit my 308.
Cheers

with T% boxes there are that many small differences it is advised to know the donor car and preferabily keep the clutch folk and tailshaft yoke with the box.
i think ford and chrysler are the worst for this.

There are no less than 4 different sets of ratios for the Locally delivered T5.Not to mention the imports. It depends on what it was behind from the factory.
As far as I know the only difference externally is that the V6 box has a longer input shaft.Internals should be the same v8 or v6 just different ratios....
Another thing to watch out for is the earlier T5's were not what is refered to as "world class" T5 .. meaning they were bushed not rollerized.. Stay away from these ones.
The easiest way to tell if the box is a world class is that it will have double synchros on 3rd.
If it is going behind a V8 then get a v8 box and save some hassle...
Oh... and there are 2 different bolt paterns to the front of box/bellhousing.
I believe the wider one is used on the Falcon 6, it is the same as theT5G that was in the Walkinshaw.Walky patern bellhousings are unique in that they are trimatic pattern.
The VR/VS v8 box uses the taller front bolt/bellhousing patern and the bellhousing is Turbo pattern...
That should be enough info to get you out of/into trouble!
If that didn't cover it... then ask away!!!
Cheers Greg..

Hi 82911.
Is the bellhousing used in Brock A9L Group As, behind the T5G, the same as the XV2 (Walkinshaw).
Dr Terry.

Hi Dr Terry......love your work!
As far as I know the casting is the same, but i think the Brock bellhousing has the identifier "HDT" added into the cast somewhere..
Cheers Greg..

Yes the brock bellhousings have hdt on them at the top & are trimatic bolt pattern.Other thing is that the shifter sits a little more forward on the walky boxes compared to the later vn-vs ones.

all good info
Commo wrecker said there is at least 2 6 cylinder boxes and same for V8.
The T5G is wat i need beacuse the shifter is slightly more forward for the commodores, unfortuneatly i have Turbo pattern, the T5 in the VN-VS fits fine in the VN-VS because they went to a longer floor pan.
The T5 in a VH needs modifying of the tunnel to fit, shifter comes up right at the double rib in the hump, lol.
Cheers

You did not here this from me but I think you can turn the shifter around..
I will need to dig my one out of the shed but I am sure it is possible.
Cheers
PS: (if you use a 6 cylinder ford box you get the ratios of a celica but the more strength) Plus with the right belhousing the shifter will mount in the right location..

I just went outside and tried that....
Yeah it can be reversed. but how do you then sit the ball of the shifter in the cup?
Cheers.
