Hello All, I have been reading the forum and noted that the Commodore door pin was a suitable replacement for the dam rusted LJ door pins, i have had the beater remove my doors with a lot of swearing, I have test fitted the commodore pins and they are to big, has anyone done the upgrade ? If so what size did you drill the hinge out ? If anyone has done this how sucsessful and is it recommended ?

Don't drill them out yet, try and get hold of the correct size hand reamer and clean them out first.

check with rare spares, they may have an oversize pin.

Or any industrial tool supplier carries stainless steel packing shim which goes down to .001".

If thats not possible its pretty easy to cut off the hinge boss and weld a new one inplace. Its alittle arkward realigning the door but i've done it on 3 torries over the years, it just takes patience.

Thks GTR 161, I have brand new LJ door pins I was looking down the line if I have to take the doors off again in a couple of years. I have asked a couple of LJ/LC people that say soak the hinge in penetration lube for a couple of days before removal. rgds Sunburst

There pretty difficult to soak, the best you could do is keep spraying wd40 or similar onto hinge.

I machined up my own tool about 25yrs ago and it still works perfect today, never had a pin i couldn't remove.

Sometimes what can help is heating up the brackets that are welded to the door, this will expand the bracket around the pin enough to free them up.
