It can be done but first you need a coffee pot or lower exterior shroud below the indicator shroud and a special steel clip that screws to the lower colum to lock the inner hollow shaft/tube into position to stop it rotating and moving up & down.

The whole column needs to be removed from the car and completely stripped down. Remove the shift lever and cast housing completely and all linkages. There is a slot about 3/4" 20mm wide and 1 1/2" 40mm long with a screw hole at each end in the lower column. You need a clip that screws across that which dips in the middle into a notch in the inner shaft.

Reassemble with the new coffee pot and you have a floor shift column.

Now getting a coffee pot is not easy.

Bottom line is you only need a coffee pot and clip and any column shift can be converted.
