Tried the same with my mates and stuffed them up. Ended up using a dremel.worked a treat with those super thin cutting wheels.

Tape the end up first with insulation tape
Then use a very thin cutting wheel on a real fast grinder or drill

Tape it like datto suggested. Then mark a line on the tape, place it against a solid block of wood then wack it f@#kn hard with a sharp chisel. Quick and no rubber dust to clean out of the hose.

Cheers Greg..

I just use a drop saw..do it quickly or you get the braid hot and melt the rubber ect.

Like you l tied the hacksaw first and found it was virtually impossible, you are not alone in your frustration. I have found a die grinder with a thin cutting wheel to be the best solution, similar to useing a dremmel. l also put on a small hose clamp over the tape right where l want to cut to minimise fraying of the braid. Sometimes it will be necessary to cut off stray wires with side cutters before trying to push the hose into your fitting. If you only have a few cuts maybe your hose supplier will do them for you.

As mentioned above, Drop saw is the way to go, get a thin cutting blade and it leaves almost a perfect cut through the steel line and the hose doesnt melt or distort in anyway
Goodluck with it
Cheers :spoton:

I taped it up..put a line around with texta..cut it slowly with a small angle grinder then trimmed any strays with side-cutters.easy as.

Like 82911 use a sharp implument that will shear it rather than the saw options. this will A. not heat the hose up at all and B. create a better cleaner end. Giloteen is commonly used in teh industry but a Chisel or other extremely shape object will do the trick.

Cheers

At work we tape the ends up first, masking tape is fine, and then we use a saw specially made for the job, the whole bench is actually setup to make hoses. The saw is basically like a dropsaw with a cutting blade like you would fit to your angle grinder.

I never thought of that when I did mine. Would work very though. Might get tricky with some of the large size hoses.

Went out and bought a drop saw just for cutting braided hose and havn't used it for anything else yet. You can never have enough power tools thou.

Have fun getting pricks in your fingers no matter which way you end up doing it.

The short answer is no you don't do them all the way up. What you should be doing is pushing the hose all the way into its socket fitting until it reaches the shoulder under the threads. Pull the hose out gently until there is a gap of around 2mm between the end of the hose and the internal shoulder, then mark the hose with a felt pen where it enters the fitting. Lightly oil the threads and inside of the hose and tighten the assemby until within about 1.5mm of the two parts bottoming out. Then check your pen mark to see if the hose has backed out by more than about 1mm. If the hose has come out too far, disassemble and try again. l place the socket end gently in a vice using soft jaws and tape the spanner to avoid damaging the anodised finish when assembling.

Decent fittins should come with a tab , you do it it until the tab touches and the fitting still moves by hand, then rip the tab off.
