howdy. as some of you might know i have recently rebuilt my lil 173 and amongst a few other mods, put twin strommies on it.

now i have a couple of slight problems with getting them to run properly.

first thing is the idle likes to change itself. i figured out this is because i only have the idle working off one of the carbs, having cut the idle screw tab off the front carbs lil worky plate thing so i could make up a cable set up for it. i can make another one that still has it, i think this will make it idle better. basicaly whats happening is i can't get the clamps on the shafts to hold perfectly, it's a tad sloppy, and the front carby is opening and closing a bit on idle letting the motor idle up and down, i drove down the main street of town with the engine idling at 2000rpm at one stage

that leads to the next problem, getting those damb clamps to hold right. i don't have a photo of the set up atm, but the clamps i have go onto the throttle shafts of the carbs like the normal plates, they have a square hole cut into them. then the nuts on the carbs bolts these up. problem is the thread on the carbie shafts are a bit stripped, one in particular. so what tips do you guy's have to fix this?? i was thiking of runninga finer thread die over it and getting some matching nuts? and before anyone asks the throttle shafts are in fairly good nick, there not super sloppy but not tight eather. anyway i'm sure you guy's have been there done that so let the tips flow.

also the engine seems to be chewing a heanous amount of fuel. it's prolly not tuned right atm but it's a little bit rude really. i worked it out quickly and i was going through about 30l to the hundred klicks. all it is is a 173, heatseeker stage 2 cam, little bit of head work, and the carbs and exhaust ect. i took the tops off the carbs yesterdy and the float levels were a tad high, fixed this but havn't had a chance to work out fuel consumption again yet, but have yas got any more tips to try to rectify this??? the motor dosent seem to be runnign stupidly rich or anything, it dosent even blow any black smoke...i can probalby advance the timing a bit, it's on 4 degrees advance at idle atm.

anyway i hope i havn't been to confusing there...any tips are great :D . and don't tell me to put a holley on it....i got the twins on there for the period look and call me old fashioned but a holley could never look as sexy :spoton:
