Talk to Struggler. In fact, he just did a write-up in TORUNYA's thread just very recently. He was talking about doing it in a UC, but it would be virtually the same in an LH/LX.

Gotta modify chassis rails, sort out your pipes, get either low rocker covers and leave your booster in the same position, or get standard/high ones and relocate the booster to the right a few centre metres.

There are also other forum members/Torana owners in communities you can get in contact with (car clubs etc) who have done this conversion. There's the white LH (I think) who joined up here a month ago roughly, and he has a really tidy job which looks almost factory. There's also MYSS-427 (or something) in NSW or ACT who has an awesome job on the chassis rails

What about the new Chev small block 427?..same size as the current LS2 in the Commodore...Might be cheaper in the long run. Can get them in crates..550Hp I think.

I used to own an LX SS Hatch in the early 90's here in Adelaide, originally it had a 350 but I installed a 427 big block. Needed to move the brake booster, used a remote VH 44 set up and kept the master cylinder on the firewall.

Trimmed the chassis rails to make more room for the custom extractors and just added extra heavy duty front springs to compensate for the extra weight, that car is still the fastest thing I have ever driven. Big port open chamber heads, CC 290 Crain Cam, Strip Dominator manifold and a 1050 Dominator Holley Carb with 12:5 to 1 compression. Back then you could go to Parafield Airport and buy Avgas for $1.00 a litre. :D

Got some old pics if somone wants to post them?

If I had to do mine again I would go the new LS motors, they are light and now can be made up to 454. Extractors off the shelf, injection for tunability and unleaded fuels. Don't have to shift booster or make the car fit the engine. And dont forget the new rego laws comming in!

Yes, the stretched LS varieties do provide the performance goods but its hard to beat the visuals of a big block....

434 is a common SBC setup
But can't be done with a stock block

Kendrick has just done a 454 SBC into a HQ
Pile of shit the car is..
The pipes are too small and its not exactly too streetable

I wouldn't mind setting up an LS1 in an LH.
I've got an LH roller. and enough left over parts to build a 400 sbc, but thought an LS1 might be a better choice.
With A4 it would becruzy to drive but with great 1/4mile and top end, also 30 + mpg.
Plus it would meet emmisions.
I have a VX LS1 with tune and exhaust, goes great.
Torana is lighter than Cdore wagon.
Anyone done one?
What problems to overcome??
