you either need adaptor plate or a new manifold

go the holley as unlike bloody tripples you can keep it in tune and there easy to rebuild

everyone wanks on how the 350s are no good

my mates torana had a 192 with the biggest solid lifter cam and a 350 holley and screamed passed heaps of v8s

Varijets were on the carbied black 202s (pre EFI VK), blue 173s and 202s, and the later red 202s (I believe VB, UC and WB?) or something along those lines.

They are a lot more advanced than say, the 1bbl Stromberg which is the standard Torrie six carb, and they can perform very well whilst still maintaining acceptable fuel economy. I've never built one myself though, so i don't know if they're easy to tune etc, but I've been told they have potential to be awesome, and aren't bad as per factory spec. I've only done a few Strombergs so my knowledge is very limited.

And as per the first line, LOL, at least I think I get it, lol.

WW Stromberg, (if you can get the right original linkages or a cable set-up) or 350 Holley. Don't forget the extractors.

Were only fitted to blue/black motors with 12 port head.
Oh, and Camiras and Starfires but they don't count do they?

Isn't there a Varijet I and a Varijet II Rob? Only one of which was on the 12-Port headed motor AFAIK.

There were a couple of versions of them but I don't know about the I or II bit?
Both the ones here are off late "airpump" motors.

I've always been told that UCs had them originally, but I've never seen a UC with one. And obviously no UCs had blue motors or anything. But I may have simply been misinformed.

I don't remember UC's having a variijet, (I used to work on them when they were new), I think that particular carby came out on the VC Commodore - circa 1980ish.

I don't think UC 6 but I could be wrong, VC was the first commodore AFAIK with them and was built later than UC 6? UC sunbird had them though.

OK. my car is a UC and its a stromberg the manual says so. i DO have extractors so that's easy.. I'm going to U-pull-it tomorrow to get elec. ignition for her.. so what model commodore should I get the varijet off? and how hard d'ya reckon it will be to fit it to the red motor?
thanks,
Matt

Anyway my experience with them is they are "fiddly" (to tune) "tempremental" and the base plates used to break on them and not a carby I would recommend.

You would still need a 2bbl manifold to fit a varajet to a red. You would probably have to make an adapter too as I think you will find no-one makes one. Good luck in your hunt for an electronic dissy at the wreckers too. They are usually one of the 1st things to go.

yeh that's what my old man said... but i was thinking if i was getting one of them off a commy i could pop open the bonnet and see if there was a varijet worht taking.. the shit is so cheap there that even if it sits in the shed and we sctratch our heads for a while it wouldn't matter. i don't think I'm a real fan of 350 holley anymore I only make $150 a week and I don't want it all to go to fuel. (I'm still at school not a slave-labourer).
Matt.
