I've noticed some of the mobs who do brake conversion kits for Torana's (eg. VT disks, hub adapter, and retaining original Torana stub axle), provide VT calipers with their kit.... whereas other mobs such as Hoppers Stoppers provide AU II calipers.

Naturally, those who use the VT calipers say they're the best, and those who use the AU calipers say they're the best!

So does it matter? Or will either conversion kit be fine?

VT's give a bit of a soft pedal feel, the au's are much better, ive used both on various commodores and prefer the au's

AU caliper is stiffer
Has a better bolt pattern to make bracket fabrication easier

I've used both...... have the VT's on my VB
I prefer the Fud caliper ....... cost more but worth it

Sounds like the Ford calipers are the ones to go for then, thanks guys.

I can get my hands on a full conversion kit with VT calipers for $795 though....

The Hoppers kit is over a grand, even close to $1200 or $1300 I think for slotted.... so there lies my dilemma!!

I am in no hurry whatsoever. I just like the idea of upgrading the brakes on my stocky LX V8 hatchback (standard LX stubs). The standard brakes are starting to get tired, so at some stage in the future it's going to need all new disks, pads etc.... but certainly not urgent. No way I'm going to spend money on standard Torrie brakes with all these other cool options around!

Keep us posted then when these new options are happening! I will hold off in the mean-time...... :)

Easiest way
VT has blind bolt mount holes 89mm apart
AU has threaded bolt holes about 160mm apart (this is an exaggeration)

Be advised though that BA and Territory calipers are same setup and AU but don't interchange with regard to disc sizes

It's well worth the upgrade, the improvement in braking is a big leap forward compared to the old torry brakes.

I did my brake conversion years ago & mine was only a 300hp lc gtr & I'm glad I did it.

If the $795.00 kit is the one I've seen on ebay it won't fit unless you convert to HQ stub axles. To fit it to Torana stub axles you need will to make caliper brackets which are included in the Hoppers Torana kit.

I believe mine are the AU III and i bought mine from hopper stoppers when they first came out for 700 and something. Lucky i suppose if they have gone up to $1300. Then i just used VL Turbo rear calipers and discs for the rear, commodore stud pattern all round now. Pedal feels real good.
