Hi
Im looking at converting my LX to commodore pattern with the use of a CRS kit for drum brake stubbs.
My first question is are the stubbs from LC to LX interchangeable?
Secondly, rather than sending them to CRS for machining, I would like to do it in Perth to save on postage. Can anyone tell me what parts of the stubb is machined, and if there is anyone recommended in Perth to do the work.
Cheers.

Your lucky. Your in the home of Dattoman the site brake guru. Listen to what he has to say and follow the advice if you want it done right.
You looking for work Dattoman?

I had one of those CRS drum stub kits for fitting the HQ brakes to Torana a while ago and the instructions that came with it told you what had to be machined - from memory it is the cast lug directly above the axle needs to be machined down slightly so that the adaptor bracket bolts down flat to all 3 places.

I would ring CRS and ask if the instructions detail this (get ready for a really stupid answer from CRS though, I have never got helpful answers from those guys when I ring them)

Toranamat69 is correct. The lug at the top of the stub is needs about 5mm removed from it. Once you have the kit it will be obvious from the bracket what needs to be removed.

Why are you going to Commodore stud pattern?

Thanks for the info.
The reason I'm going commodore pattern is cos I'm fitting a VL turbo BW diff with brakes, and wanted the fronts to match. I already have some cross-drilled front rotors and VP commodore calipers.
I'm looking at fitting 17 inch rims, which I beleive should fit over the front caliper without fouling. However does anyone think 8 inch wide front rims will be a problem?

I have 17 x 8"rims on the front of my LX.
From memory, you may have contact between the top balljoint and the rim if you are using more than 4.5" back spacing with 17"rims, you can get around this using the Repco Sealed type balljoints as they don't have the tophat type of thing of the top.

You can use LC-LJ drum stubs but only the 6 cylinder ones. The 4 cylinders LC-LJ are different.

I would look at what rims will fit before changing the stud pattern. You may not be able to find appropriate offset rims in the Commodore pattern. The HQ pattern is also an option. The rear axles can be redrilled for around $100 and the Commodore discs will fit over the HQ pattern without any problems. (The disc is located on the axle and is not supported by the studs)
