Can someone please tell me what colour green this is? Its an old pic of mates car in the early 80's. Note the Aussie flag on the front gaurd, it was all the rage back then to have the Aussie flag on the quarter around the Riverina. Dont see it at all these days.

This car was one of the fastest things in town and it ended up getting stolen the first night in 2 years no one was home. 3 years later the cops found the doors in the river. After that one of the blokes who was in the car when it was pinched had a blu with the other 2 and told my mate who had stolen it and what happened to the car. They pretty much wrecked it for bits for their own cars they were doing up and sold anything that was left.

It was a 308. In 1981 he spent 3k (big money in those days) on an engine rebuild and it went like buggery :D After he busted many aussie 4 speeds he put a munice in it. It still had the banjo running 2.78 and put he put a few of those in it too. I drove it often and was in it many times when he'd blow the doors of something. One that comes to mind was a race with a gold twin turbo 308 Torana from Junee. The guy driving the turbo couldnt believe it was normally aspirated.

Why did it go so hard then? was It just an awsome rebuild?
So Rob is your 5000 origional. because I'm looking at doing a replica. can you do one off a stock lh/lx shell? and whats the economy of a 5.0 compared to a 3.3?

well he always says it went hard coz it was built loose. I dont know or can remember should i say all the specs of the engine but to this day he still has the cam specs so once i rebuild mine i'll be using the same grind. He now owns a XB GT ( I have posted a pic of it before).

Yes mine is an orgininal LH SLR 5000 and i dont find it to bad on fuel but its also not my daily driver. Yes you can build a replica from any LH/LX shell. That one in the pic was orginally a 4cyl.

Ecomony of a 6 I think the other guys on here who own em and drive em everyday could give you a better idea of the fuel usage. I find with mine if I drive around steady its very reasonalbe but once I start opening up the secondaries it starts to really use a bit. Its worth it though coz its an instant grin when you open it up :D

Heath rattled off all the Torana greens from his memory to me the other day. An absolute plethora of information on green.
I didn't know there were that many greens. :fool:
In fact I didn't think there were that many colours in the spectrum

might have to get those cam specs off yah for myself. thinking of building one in the next 12 months but I want it to be my daily driver and I'll be going to uni. i just kinda need an idea... I'll prob change my mind in the next few months.. we'll see. I wanted to do an injected 5.0 from a commy conversion but will that sound as mean?? I'm going for pure torque and noise here.

ok fryer here you go
Competion Cams (brand)
525 lift (exh and inlet)
288 duration (exh and inlet)
stage 3 yella terra heads
redline maxi torque manifold
650 double pumper spreadbore
That should make a good starting point. Of course if you got the dollars you'd bore it out, balance and blueprint etc.
