If I want to run 15x10 Hotwires on the front of my SS, what tyres do I need to get for them and do I need to machine the inside of the wheels to get clearance when turning. The car has flares. The wheels are the racing type (for racing use only) cast on the inside of them.

Tyres will fit at the front of the guard and flare with 10s

That's gonna be tough getting those to fit I reckon.

Any more than 4.5"back spacing and your rim will be hitting the top ball joint &/or the upper control arm (with the wheels straight) &/or the lower control arm at the back on full lock.

This leaves you having to run 5.5" of rim to the outside and will result in a nasty scrub radius about 1 to 1.25" further out per side than the original torana front end. That will also make it very close to the lip on the rear edge of wheel arch even if you do bend it over - depending on what tire size you run.

HQ stub axles or CRS drop stubs will allow more room to the top control arm and balljoint and the repco sealed top balljoints would help too, still going to be close in the other places though.

I have heard of people doing some cutting and welding to make room behind the wheel where the lip is (more than just removing the lip) but that scrub radius won't be nice for handling and steering.

I ultimately plan to run the ZR1 corvette size up front (275/40-17) but I have lots of things to do first to allow that to happen - I also plan to use 9" or 9.5" rims, not 10's

Interesting...considering all the A9X replicas in Melb run 15 x 10 front and rear in Challenger wheels. (sort of a globe XY mag)

Yeah I have certainly seen it done on a fair few cars.

The guy I got my 15x10's had them on a road going A9X and claimed to be running a 225 tyre on those rims. Said it was tight but could be done.

HQ stub

225's abit small isn't it ?
Didn't they run something abit bigger (but lowish profile) on the track cars

My 15x10's will fit front and rear with the right tyres, but originally the race cars needed a different offset front to rear. Look at the Brock A9X's for example.

I'd be surprised if you could get a 225 to seat on a 10"rim - especially a low profile one.

Are you sure they are 10's? you measure to the inside edge where the tire bead sits for rims not the overall width - or is the size marked on the rim?

Funny thing though..Grices car and other had the same offset..appeared that only HDT had different offsets from all the pics I have looked at.

Yeah, look at the 79 A9X, it has the Bathurst rims on it and they are different offsets. Like I said though, my 15x10 mawers (funnily came from Grices L34) when I got them had slicks fitted. I could mount them on the front or rear and turn the wheels full lock with no cutting of the flares. The slicks are 280 wide and are similar in profile to my 285/40/15's. 225 would be really pushing it on a 10inch rim, if it would even fit at all. I have 225/50/15's on the front of mine, but I made the front Mawers 8 inches wide by having an inch taken off the in and outside.

FWIW one of my old cars had 15x10's on the front and 265/50HR15 Yoko 352s.

I had to do a lot of work to the footwells with a sledge and almost cut the front inside edge of the flare away! I have seen other cars with similar combos, with hand made extended flares (cut 2 flares to make one long one). Once they cleared they never scraped once whilst driving. Parking was a bit of work though !!!
