a older workmate told me that the silver dash colour of slr toranas is a dulon colour tinter base probably lite or medium silver metalic , he worked in a gmh dealer paint shop for many years and said it was a perfect match when doing predelivery and warranty repairs.any similar info or the dulon paint code?he said its in the back of the paint book under trim paint codes.i have no reason to dought him, when he saw the rare spares repo ashtray i have he said it was wrong straight away.

This has been gone over so many times now, and rares have painted them the colour thats generally accepted as being correct. The process of how it was originally done makes spraying it correctly almost impossbile to get right, not that I have seen too many dashes that are all one colour new anyway.

sorry but the info to me seemed to be of some interest, maybe if rares sold it premixed in a 500ml can you could some how finish the whole thing the same colour.for others like myself some info is hard to get and when some one else says how you got it wrong without any reasonable explanation it just sucks.i latley started to read a article (rant) in this forum about serving a car (blah blah) and how many joined in.come on redirect to the last same post if there is the same thing as not all are know-alls.but after my little rant know, i do enjoy my car and the info gained from this site

I have spent more time on dashes than i wish to admitt but have had some good results in the end. My advice would be to get a complete dash painted by Dash original and make some extra dollars to pay for it doing something else. However if you are like me and just need to have a go then the best way is to either buy some premix in a aerosol can or tin. Autobahn sell the premix cans. As above it is PORTLAND GREY METALLIC. There is no paint code only a colour shade number. Reference is 04045. The supplier needs to search their database for either of the two as Portland Grey doesnt always come up. As RED says the original process was different so they were never sprayed. Therefore it is very hard to match individual panels. Even the original cars had poor matching of dash components. The components of the dash are also different in curvature so you get a different shade at times using the same paint. The paint bounces off the plastic if you are not careful and causes the paint to pimple. Try a little clear in with the paint of just a very light clear over the top. Think about restenciling the silver surrounds with a chrome paint pen and clearing over the top of this as well. Also the plastic can absorb silicon or wax and be very hard to get clean. Some glovebox lids are so bad you just need to buy another one. Lots of work and trial and error. Now you know it all :spoton:

Ah the colour suggested for the SS and SLR caps is incorrect, it is not Portland grey. Portland grey is close for the dash, but they were not sprayed from new so I am told, it was more like a roller type process, this is why it never looks quite right.
