From Dr Terrys book 45 years of Holden.

Its a RPO or Regular? Production Order like XU1 or L34 or A9X, creates a special car on the line based on a standard model.Whats XV4 ?
Other examples are HQ SS (Belmont with a 253, GTS dash and armrests) or the Sandmans (Holden commercials with V8s, bucket seats and GTS dash).

sorry to drag up an oldie.
i get that 80469 was used for both V8 Kingswood and GTS Monaro , i get that the trim code can also help designate a gts .
my question is , XV4, where is that code found ???

You won't find production option code XV4 on any of the tags.
I'm sure Yel327 will know more about this subject.

A9X
You will find not all GTS Monaros had this optioned stamped on them
depending on year and where they were made.
But should be stamped on firewall near heater box.

XW4 was only seen on the ID plates on 4-door HQ GTSs built in Brisbane. The other plants didn't stamp option pack codes in that era.

XU1 on GTR.
XV2 on HQ V8 Belmont sedan (SS).
XU3 or XX7 on HQ-HZ Holden, Belmont and Kingswood commercials.
XU2 on LH-LX SLR (SLR5000).
L34 on LH XU2.
A9X on LX SLR and SS.
The trim code on these is the giveaway as the XV4 and XW8 had trims not available on Kingswood. I'm pretty sure 33Y is one of them. On later examples they used a Q in the VIN rather than an N but they still remained as aV8 Kingswood model until HJ when the GTS sedan became a stand alone model WQ69.

very interesting.
I'm about to grab a v8 hq kingswood, L31 Trimatic . 80469 on the plate.
The car is a good base project that my lad has been looking for , so i'll grab it any way. But be very intersting if its a gts.
Watch that set a cat amongst the Welby pidgeon coop.
Unfortunately i can't get more detail before i grab it, so its wait and see.

Don't know if they all have this but my mate's one does. It certainly wasn't (isn't) XV4 stamped there.

I had an HJ 4 door Monaro. It had a 4 digit (if I remember correctly) number stamped on the firewall.

XV4 was HQ only.

All Pagewood HQ to HZ circa Commodore release have a number on the firewall, this is how Pagewood tracked the cars through the body and assembly plants. I've never been able to find out how they tracked the foreign bodies though, mainly Elizabeth van and cab-chassis bodies. This firewall number appears on the broadcast sheet, prior to HQ they used the chassis number on the firewall for the same purpose. If you ever pull a Pagewood assembled car apart in very original condition you'll find 2 digit numbers on everything, compare that to the firewall number and be surprised!

Normally Kingswood will be E trim, GTS will be be normally X or Y. Being L31 M40 i'd give you better than odds on that it is an XV4. Needs to be later HQ though ie '73-4
Just checked it up. E, G, J and K trims for HQ KIngswood sedan. W, X, Y and Z for XV4 and XW8. E and X are the most common. G, K, Y and Z are cloth insert.
