hey guys as i posted a little while ago i ran out of oil pressure before i got to drive the new 202 and its rooted the bearings and scored the crank and all that so i need new bearings now. i just wanted to know what all you guys rekon about going either the standard acl bearings or the acl race series. im not trying to skimp because i havnt yet on the engine just wondering what the differences and advantages are.
any feed back would be appreciated.
still havnt pulled it down yet havnt had the heart to look at it since will get some photos of the crank.
cheers
ben

You will be surprised how little much damage might have happened..modern oils are pretty good....you might get away with a nice linish on the crank..all is not lost yet..Chin up.

when building my engine recently, my engine builder said use 'Race' series everything you can get.... though mine has been built to see some track work.

after reading their web site it appears that the race series is a carry on from the top quality standard bearings they used to use, they list two types of replacement standard bearings but arnt of the type i was familiar with in the day so i would go with the race series being tri metal and all.

i have got the peice of paper from the race series bearing box it reads as followes:
"these competition bearings do not have a flash coating whitch means they are not as cosmeticaly appeleing as the silver grey flash plated regular aftermarket bearings the cosmetic coating has been deleted from the final manufacturing process to impove the bearing to housing contact (giving greater heat disapation),to prevent any flash plate migration or movement and improve surface characteristics" they also have a oil grove cut some of the way around the top half on the main bearings.i dont know if you have seen a set before but they are not silver or grey they are black.
we have never had a bearing failure yet and we are using acl race bearings in all our engines. they dont cost very much more than standard ones. i would strongly recomend you use a set if it is any sort of performance holden 6.

i think so but i dont want new rings and pistons.
got the crank sorted by the way that will be polished and i have discoverd that it was definantly the welsh plug that has come out and been chewed up by the timing gears whcih i will now aso replace just for good measure.
so about this plug i was wondering all yoiu guys who hav been building holden 6's since forever this little plug that fell out is it worth geting the hole drilled and taped to put a grub screw in it ? atleast i will know i will never have the same problem again! or is that a bit extreme for what is required?

Yes tap the hole out to accept a plug.

uglybob, i would recomend that you drill and tap this and simmalar to the other end of the gallery i think from memory that it is 3/8 bsp or taper i carnt remeber
but make sure you use the correct plug as it has to sit flush as i think the cam thrust plate will not sit flat other wise.it has been a few months since i did it last and i would not build any holden 6 with doing this.
Thanks Hayden
