G'day All

Magazines of the era of our much loved Toranas are one of the best ways of gathering correct information.

This is out of one of my collection.

I like the bit that says 'Cooling for the engine is also provided by a scoop on the bonnet. This is 'reversed' so it gets air which bounces off the windscreen, into the scoop and into the engine. By catching air this way, greater control of the air entering is possible"

Can someone explain WTF that is all supposed to mean?

A low pressure zone is created just in front of the windscreen. They took advantage of this by fitting a scoop, but not for engine cooling, it's used (on race cars) to allow cooler air into the carbies. On a stock road car, all it does is allows petrol fumes into the cabin when you pull up, and your widscreen washers to direct the water into the engine bay at anything over about 60km/h. It's funny to watch it go up and get sucked back into the scoop.

LC69GTR

That's the mag I got the pic from. :spoton:

I know have a collection of about 9 magazines from that era as well as some other SS related stories etc which I will post later.

2 others include the "TORANA SPORTS DEPT." which has the SL/R 5000, SS Hatch and the SL/R with their specs and the other is a tri-fold of 3, A size sheets and is called "WHAT THE EXPERTS SAY" which is about what the motoring journalists had to say about the new series TORANA. ( the Hatchback )

The earliest comments were made by a couple of motoring writers from various newspapers on February 27 1976.

Too big to scan So I will take a couple of pics and put them up later.

After 4 years with the LC GTR I know have to bone-up on the SS :spoton: good fun tho' and I like doing it.

Regards ............... Barry
