As you say it's your car and you can do whatever you want to it, nobody is trying to tell you what to do with your car they are just expressing their opinion about what you have done or plan to do and they have every right to do that. I suppose it's a bit like a man choosing to wear a dress in public he's gonna take some flack as not everybody is going to like his choice of clothing.

Stick with a holden powerplant and dont go the 9inch, as already said if you want it to be "what could have been" the this would be the way to go, also a 9 inch weighs a tonne!!! if you are trying to keep weight down then it wouldnt be the greatest idea. Also from what has already been said, you dont seem to be the type to thrash the ass out of your possesions, so with that in perspective, the four speed would probably be good enough, and keeps it in the holden family. Im assuming that money isnt a problem, so good luck with it. The widened sprintys are a good idea. :spoton:

Keep the GTR as a superannuation fund as it is appreciating everyday in original form, find one with a V8 in it already then make it your own, the first XU1 V8 was a 4.2 then a couple of 5 litres after that. Check your RTA for issues registering as I believe the laws have changed and unless registered as a V8 you may not be able to register (laws change from state to state) plenty of V8 ones floating about that need some TLC. good luck Sunburst

You could put the alloy V8 in it and paint it up with the original paint and make it look like a stocker.

But My ideal combo for this build would be a L34 spec 308 (or what ever engine they were gonna put in it), a Aussie 4 speed and a banjo. At least it will appear to be as close to production as can be.

But as a lot of people have already said, build it to your taste and forget about all the damm purists. They tend to get a bit emotional about these sorts of things. Maybe they are jealous they dont have a GTR of their own.

Project is starting with checking with the authorities for a 308 based but with a 427 rest of the combo will sort out over the next threes years which is my target for a completion date around the time when long service is due then I can enjoy.

Although the XU1 at the moment is getting an overhaul with the front member out of the car, new bushes, springs and shocks front and rear (KONI). Exhaust is also getting re-done. The front has all been re-wired. Rims out for polishing will post a few photos once it is all done. Then its on with the LC GTR to get its motor rebuilt and XU-1s motor rebuilt. Then the shed, so much to think about...back to work...

3 years??..Mate thats great..In about 3 nano seconds they about to ban engine tranplants..completely...it will make a good coffee table...Most state limits are about 312c.i. anyway for an LC/J..unless you have a magic wand to get around it..
I cannot believe this thread is still going.

If you want to make what could be a 2006 LJ XU-2, it'd be with 18" wheels, and a V6/T56/IRS.

If you want to make an as accurate as possible XU-2, you'd use a Cast 308, an M21 and a Bango LSD.

I still don't see the logic behind using a GTR...
