Yes there was only one style in terms of stiching and design however many variations. Seats had either gold ball vinyl or cloth inserts. The gold ball vinyl was also a feature of the door trims and the originals have map pockets in the front door trims. The cloth came in a herringbone (ranier) patern or houndstooth (black and white only). The herringbone was commonly a black and white sargents stripes patern but there was other shades in this material but rare. The golfball vinyl was mostly charcoal grey but could be black, sienna and chamois. May have been a few other golf ball variants but again rare.

Hi BensLX,

I have just bough an original SS.

It has trim code 1886-67V, which is brown.

Ordinarily I hate brown!! I have always been a grey/black man.

But this actually looks OK, especially with the golf ball vinyl
inserts. I guess the interior suits the yellow exterior quite well.
The whole thing screams '70s!!!!! (orange and red stripes as well!)

My new baby is being transported here as we speak. As soon
as I get it back to Sydney I'll post some pics of the inside.

Cheers, Leakey

PS - here are some pics I have collected recently. (appologies to anyone
who might be offended by me posting their pic!) Some are not of SS's,
they are in there for interests sake!

FYI
the latter model SS's with the "Ashtray less" armrests had the Ashtray in the rear of the console and not in the armrests as per the earlier model..

Just some more useless info for the day.. :spoton: :spoton:

cheers

So early hatch consoles have no ashtray in the back of them? Or are you just saying that they only relied on them in the later models?

lol, who would actually smoke in the back seat of a hatch... great ventilation :<_<:

Not too sure about mine as I have the ashtray in the back of the console and some spare armrests with ashtrays that came with the car. Is a May 76 build. And has a burn in the centre of the rear seat. Cloth front and rear seats probably means it has had a retrim before I bought it.

And door trims, definately a retrim. Looks like a pretty clean package you've got there, would we be able to see some more photos? :P

^ key words here are "looks like".

Interior is OK but the dash had been painted wrong and the ashtray was even more wrong. End up buying a Rares SS ashtray and repainted the dash so it looks a bit better. 2 of the gauges were RS so eBay gave me a new set with 160,000 less on the speedo. Might still put the high kay original back in as it goes a bit better with the body. Original seats were a pain in the rrrs so black Recaros went in.

Has been "trimmed" by previous owners but the car was cheap. Gaurds are cut and it has all the plastic bits and a dreaded sunroof. Has the usual rust but it was still cheap for an L31 M21 SS.

Did have a pic or two on the old forum but if we have a fine day soon I'll give it a wash and take a few new ones. Um, no exhaust shots though.
