Hi all,

I bought a 1974 LH 6 cylinder yestarday that has a factory aircon unit in it. The reason i bought it was to so that i could remove the air con and put it into my 253 LX. Just wondering if this can be done and what changes i need to make??

After looking at the air con after i got it i realise that one big change that i have to make is that i have to move the compressor as there isn't enough room to mount to the side of the engine like it is done in the LH.

Any help would be appreciated..if possible any pics??

Thanks

They are actually different slightly. The main difference as far as I know is the evaporator is a different shape to suit the V8 engine. The 6s also had a POAST plus expansion valve where as the V8 had a VIR assembly, that is as far as my knowledge goes.

Pete, so does this mean that i have to find a VIR assembly or is it possible to use the POAST setup from the 6?? Additionally, do i also have to find a v8 evaporator?
thanks

pete uc is right about the LH 6cyl aircon being different. What I cant verify is whether the v8 will fit with the 6cyl unit in place, the 6cyl uses a different evaporator + a different casing. My manual doesnt mention why the 6cyl has a different unit. Looking at the pics, the LH6cyl evaporator looks smaller than that fitted to the rest of the LH/UC range. So it may have been made bigger just to get the cooling better, especially with the added heat from a v8.
The actual "poast" equipment could be rerouted if thats all that gets in the way with a v8 installation. If the box itself is the prob(best measure it all up with get some measurements of reda9x to see how much clearance you need), then maybe picking up the v8 aircon setup, (the setup that was also used in all LX and UC 4,6cyl as well). Whether you go poast or vir, either will work well , but if there are any problems you could be left high and dry as there is little expertise around to fix these. Does the setup thats in there work? It may be worth keeping it if it does, but any problems with poast and vir, especially if running anything other than freon, can typically only be solved with swapping parts, they are too complex for most aircon shops.

thanks for that devil...just wondering if anyone can verify whether or not the 6cyl unit will fit with a v8. ALso has anyone fitted a lh 6cyl aircon or know or anyone has fitted a 6cyl aircon into a v8?

Thanks
